In the holy month of Ramadan, the doors of Jannah are opened, the doors of hell are closed, and the devil is chained. Allah pours down His blessings and mercy on this world, especially for those who fast for Him and protect themselves from that which is forbidden. Out of 365 days, we get 29 to 30 days every year to revive our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Ramadan is divided into three ashras, the first ashra is of blessings, the second of forgiveness, and the third is to secure exemption from hellfire. The third ashra is the most important one as it has the odd nights which carry the highest rewards. Those who seek forgiveness from Allah will be saved from the fire of hell and attain paradise. As a Muslim, you should exert extra effort to perform good deeds and seek forgiveness from Allah during the last days of Ramadan. The following dua in original Arabic and English text will help you beseech Allah to save you from the pain and torment of hell.
Though the entire month of Ramadan carries a great reward for every good deed, the last 10 days bring innumerable blessings. In these 10 days, the doors of hellfire are closed, and Allah grants salvation to those who seek it with ibadah and good deeds. Layla tul Qadr, the night that is better than 1000 nights, also falls on the odd dates in the last 10 days of Ramadan. Muslims increase their worship in the last Ashra of Ramadan due to Layla tul Qadr. Making duas, reciting the Quran elongating the prayer with nafil prayers, and giving sadqa become part of the days and the qiyams during the night of the last ashra.
Most Muslims isolate themselves for itekaf, spending their entire time in the ibadah of Allah. They recite the Quran, offer compulsory and nafil salah, tasbih, and darood, and listen to different scholars in Islam. Seeking protection from the hellfire through duas, especially the one above, is a great way to submit yourself to the creator and ask for His forgiveness and mercy.
Allah is the most merciful and He likes those who show mercy towards others. The best way to get an exemption from hellfire and attain forgiveness is to treat the creations of Allah the way you want Allah to treat you. Show kindness and compassion towards others, including animals, recite dua for forgiveness, pray tahajjud, forgive others, do good deeds, and refrain from doing things that Allah commands against. On the odd nights, spend the nights doing ibadah as any night can be the Layla tul Qadr, the biggest night in the entire year.
Narrated by Aisha (R.A), “With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet used to tighten his waist belt (i.e., work hard) and used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers.” (Sahih al Bukhari 2024). In another Hadith, Aisha (R.A) narrated, “Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W) said, ‘Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017).
