Al-Ba'ith
Allah is Al-Ba’ith, The One who chooses who will be awaken and be sent forth. He is the giver of life and who sends light into the worlds. The One who resurrects His slaves after death for reward and/or punishment.
From the root b-‘a-th which has the following classical Arabic connotations: to call forth, awaken to raise up from sleep or death to resurrect to delegate, consign to send, send out, make manifest.
And it is He who takes your souls by night and knows what you have committed by day. Then He revives you therein that a specified term may be fulfilled. Then to Him will be your return;
then He will inform you about what you used to do. (Quran 6:60)
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth – that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward]. (Quran 53:31)
And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming – no doubt about it – and that Allah will resurrect those in the graves. (Quran 22:7)

The name is derived from the Arabic root ب ع ث, which has the following Arabic connotations – to awake, to rise from sleep to death, to resurrect, and to send out. Although there has been doubt regarding Al Ba'ith being one of Allah's names, the majority of Islamic schools of thought have indeed confirmed it to be one of Allah's blessed names. The name has been recognized as authentic by renowned scholars. The prominent scholars include Ibn al-arabi and Ibn Hazm.
It is a fact that mankind will be rebirthed on the Final day of judgment, where Allah will raise them from their slumber, awaken them, and provide them with brand new life so they can be held accountable for what they did while they were still breathing in this world. Allah says in the Quran:
"Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and earth and did not fail in their creation, is able to give life to the dead? Yes. Indeed, He is over all things competent." — (46:33)
Allah also says in the Quran:
"And [that they may know] that the Hour is coming – no doubt about it – and that Allah will resurrect those in the graves." (22:7)
It is a fact that Allah will resurrect the dead, bringing back all their actions, feelings, and thoughts that they experienced during their lifetimes along with them. The disbelievers had disrespected the attribute of Allah, such as Ubayy ibn Khalaf, who crushed decayed old bones between his fingers and threw them in front of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "So you claim that He will revive these rotten bones?"
The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) gave a steadfast response and said: "Indeed, so will He recreate you, so that He will put you in His fire."
It was after this incident that Allah revealed Surah Yasin with the following verse:
And applies comparisons to Us, having forgotten his origin, and says: "Who can put life into decayed bones?" - (78-79)
Mankind will be brought back to life from the dead so they can be held accountable for their deeds which they performed while they were still alive in the world, and they will be met with punishment if they engaged in sins but will be rewarded with good if they engaged in what was good. Allah says in the Quran:
"Do those who commit evil deeds really think that We will deal with them in the same way as those who believe and do righteous deeds, that they will be alike in their living and their dying? How badly they judge!" (45:21).
The name that is the nearest in meaning to Al Ba'ith is Al Muhyi. Al Muhyi means the One Who Gives Life, the One Who Maintains Life, or the Reviver. This name explains one of Allah's many attributes, which is to provide life. Every believer knows that it is Allah alone who provides us with our life and Allah alone who can take it away.
Although Al Muhyi has not explicitly been mentioned in the Quran, some verses emphasize its meaning. For example, Allah says in the Quran:
"How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned." — (2:28)
Allah also says in the Quran:
Say: "O men, I am verily the apostle of God to you all. His whose kingdom extends over the heavens and the earth. There is no god but He, the giver of life and death. So believe in God and the messenger, the gentile Prophet, sent by Him, who believes in God and His messages. Obey him; you may haply be guided aright." — (Qur'an 7:158)
Allah has mentioned in the Quran that every soul will taste death – it is one reality no one is exempted from. However, when the day of judgment comes forth, all the souls whose lives were taken away from them will be given life again to account for their actions and what they had done all throughout their lives, and this will be done by Allah alone as there is no one else in the universe who holds the power to give life except Allah.
Another verse in the Quran where Allah mentions His ability to resurrect His creation is:
"It is He indeed who sends you to death at night, and knows what you do in the day, then makes you rise with it again in order that the fixed term of life be fulfilled. Then to Him, you will be returned when He will tell you what you did." – (6:60).
Therefore, we must not defy the One who has provided us with life and remain steadfast in faith and prayer.
