Dua for the One That Has Been Praised

If you’ve any good traits, abilities, and qualities that lead to others praising you often for it, you must recite the dua given below. As Muslims, it is important for us to seek the remembrance of Allah when we are praised for something we possess or have the ability to act upon. After all, as mere human beings, nothing is within our control, and Allah is the one who has provided us with whatever we possess, own, or can and cannot do. Therefore, as soon as we are praised for our abilities or possessions, we must remember Allah immediately to keep us from becoming arrogant or self-centered.

Etiquette Of Reciting Dua for the One That Has Been Praised

This beautiful and humble Dua was recited by the first Khalifa of Islam – Abu Bakr (RA). Even though he was the Khalifa and a sahabi of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he never once let his power get to him and would make this dua immediately upon hearing any praise. The dua asks Allah not to test the reciter for praise. The person asks Allah for improvement and forgiveness for what the others may not know about the one being praised.

Benefits Of Reciting Dua for the One That Has Been Praised

Humbleness is an important trait in Islam. Islam forbids us from giving in to worldly desires and emphasizes the importance of being down to earth and remaining humble. Allah says in the Quran: ‘’And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.’’ (31:18). Therefore, remembering Allah once you’re praised for abilities or traits provided to you by Allah absolves you from appearing arrogant and self-centered while also asking Allah to make you better than what others perceive of you and forgive you for your shortcomings that others may be unaware of.
