Dua Asking for Clear Skies

The dua for asking for clear skies is a vital dua taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (п·є) when it rains heavily and can lead to destruction. Due to climate change, we often see flooding during rainy seasons. In such challenging times, seeking Allah's help through dua can do wonders. When faced with difficulties arising through natural events, making dua to Allah is the best course of action for us as Muslims. So, whenever the dark clouds gather, and heavy rains seem threatening, remember to recite dua asking for clear skies.

The dua for asking for clear skies was taught by our Prophet (п·є) and has been reported by most authentic Hadith sources, particularly in Sahih Al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. In Sahih Al Bukhari, there are multiple narrations for this dua. In one Hadith, Sharik bin Abdullah bin Abi Namir ((Ш±ЩЋШ¶ЩђЩЉЩЋ Щ±Щ„Щ„ЩЋЩ‘Щ°Щ‡ЩЏ Ш№ЩЋЩ†Щ’Щ‡)ЩЏ) narrated that he heard Anas bin Malik (Ш±ЩЋШ¶ЩђЩЉЩЋ Щ±Щ„Щ„ЩЋЩ‘Щ°Щ‡ЩЏ Ш№ЩЋЩ†Щ’Щ‡)ЩЏ talking about a Friday sermon, where a man came to Prophet (п·є), requesting Him (п·є) to make dua as the livestock were dying due to lack of water.

The Prophet (п·є) raised both of His hands and made dua for rain. Upon the dua of the Prophet (п·є), clouds gathered, and it rained for a week. The following Friday, a man requested the Prophet (п·є) to make dua to withhold rain as the livestock were dying and roads were cut off. On which Prophet (п·є) made dua asking for clear skies. Anas (Ш±ЩЋШ¶ЩђЩЉЩЋ Щ±Щ„Щ„ЩЋЩ‘Щ°Щ‡ЩЏ Ш№ЩЋЩ†Щ’Щ‡)ЩЏ reported that the rain stopped, and they came out walking in the sun (Al Bukhari Vol 2, Book 17, Hadith 127).

In another Hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik (Ш±ЩЋШ¶ЩђЩЉЩЋ Щ±Щ„Щ„ЩЋЩ‘Щ°Щ‡ЩЏ Ш№ЩЋЩ†Щ’Щ‡)ЩЏ, it is reported that after making this dua, the clouds cleared away from Medina (Al Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 17, Hadith 132). In Sahih Al Muslim, it is narrated that Anas bin Malik ((Ш±ЩЋШ¶ЩђЩЉЩЋ Щ±Щ„Щ„ЩЋЩ‘Щ°Щ‡ЩЏ Ш№ЩЋЩ†Щ’Щ‡)ЩЏ ) reported the same about a person who asked  Prophet (п·є) to supplicate to Allah for rain. During the next Friday sermon, a man asked the Prophet (п·є) to supplicate to Allah to stop the rain, and the Prophet (п·є) made a dua, asking for clear skies in Medina (Al Muslim 697a, Book 4, Hadith 1955).

Similar has been reported in Sunan Abi Dawud, narrated by Anas ibn Malik (Ш±ЩЋШ¶ЩђЩЉЩЋ Щ±Щ„Щ„ЩЋЩ‘Щ°Щ‡ЩЏ Ш№ЩЋЩ†Щ’Щ‡)ЩЏ, that when Prophet (п·є) recited dua asking for clear skies, the clouds dispersed around Medina, resembling a crown (Sunan Abi Dawud Book 3, Hadith 14).
