About Solna, Stockholm

A city where remnants of ancient settlements, Viking burial sites, and runic stones can be found alongside modern urban landscapes and the head offices of major companies, you have come to Solna. Solna is part of the greater Stockholm area, located to the north of Stockholm City Centre. It is one of Sweden’s richest municipalities and a hub of industry and commerce.

While Solna became a city in 1948, the settlement in the area dates back centuries. So much so that ancient buildings, like the Solna Church, built in the 12th century, are still standing. Other notable places you can visit include not one but three of Sweden’s royal palaces: Haga Palace, Karlberg Palace, and Ulriksdal Palace. Mall of Scandinavia, the region’s largest mall, is also located here. Adding to the greenery and beauty of the city is the Royal National City Park, a third of which is part of Solna.

Solna was developed as a center for manufacturing, and in the 1960s, with the establishment of Solna Centrum, the city gained prominence in the avenues of administration, culture, and commerce. The city provides livelihood to hundreds of thousands of individuals, with people coming from Stockholm proper to work in companies and offices located in Solna.

The lack of mosques in Solna is a challenge for Muslims living here. It is a concerning development that the two mosques that did exist here were permanently closed down. Still, whenever there are hardships, Allah (SWT) provides ease. One such ease is the availability of apps such as MuslimandQuran, which provide location-based adhan alerts, qibla direction, nearby mosque locations, and access to a treasure trove of Islamic resources. Any Muslim can benefit from such apps, but especially those who do not live near a mosque and are forced to pray at home.
