٥٦ - ٱلْوَاقِعَة

56 - Al-Waqi'a

ثُلَّۃٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ۝۳۹ۙ
Thullatun mina alawwaleena

A crowd of earlier generations

39

وَثُلَّۃٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَ۝۴۰ۭ
Wathullatun mina alakhireena

English

Ahmed Ali

And a crowd of the later.

40

وَاَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِ۝۰ۥۙ مَاۗ اَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِ۝۴۱ۭ
Waashabu alshshimali ma ashabu alshshimali

Ahmed Ali

But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand --

41

فِيْ سَمُوْمٍ وَّحَمِيْمٍ۝۴۲ۙ
Fee samoomin wahameemin

Ahmed Ali

Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water,

42

وَّظِلٍّ مِّنْ يَّحْمُوْمٍ۝۴۳ۙ
Wathillin min yahmoomin

English

Ahmed Ali

Under the shadow of thick black smoke

43

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَّلَا كَرِيْمٍ۝۴۴
La baridin wala kareemin

Ahmed Ali

Neither cool nor agreeable.

44

اِنَّہُمْ كَانُوْا قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِيْنَ۝۴۵ۚۖ
Innahum kanoo qabla thalika mutrafeena

Ahmed Ali

They were endowed with good things

45

وَكَانُوْا يُصِرُّوْنَ عَلَي الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيْمِ۝۴۶ۚ
Wakanoo yusirroona AAala alhinthi alAAatheemi

Ahmed Ali

But persisted in that greater sin,

46

وَكَانُوْا يَقُوْلُوْنَ۝۰ۥۙ اَىِٕذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَ اِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَ۝۴۷ۙ
Wakanoo yaqooloona aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona

Ahmed Ali

And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again?

47

اَوَاٰبَاۗؤُنَا الْاَوَّلُوْنَ۝۴۸
Awa abaona alawwaloona

English

Ahmed Ali

And so will our fathers?"
