٢٢ - ٱلْحَجّ

22 - Al-Hajj

ثَانِيَ عِطْفِہٖ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيْلِ اؘ۝۰ۭ لَہٗ فِي الدُّنْيَا خِزْيٌ وَّنُذِيْقُہٗ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَۃِ عَذَابَ الْحَرِيْقِ۝۹
Thaniya AAitfihi liyudilla AAan sabeeli Allahi lahu fee alddunya khizyun wanutheequhu yawma alqiyamati AAathaba alhareeqi

Turning their backs that they may lead away from the path of God. For such there is disgrace in the world, and on the Day of Judgement We shall make them taste the torment of burning.

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (turning away) from the signs and disbelieving in muhammad (pbuh) and in the qur'an (in pride to beguile (men) from the way of allah) from allah's religion and obedience. (for him in this world is ignominy) the torment of death and being shackled on the day of badr, (and on the day of resurrection we make him taste the doom of burning) we make him taste the chastisement of the fire; and it is said that this means: we make him taste a severe chastisement.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : turning aside (thāniya ‘itfihi, a circumstantial qualifier, meaning ‘turning his neck aside in disdain of belief; al-ītf means ‘a side’, and can be either the left or the right) to go astray (read li-yadilla; or li-yudilla, ‘to lead [others] astray’) from the way of god, that is, [from] his religion. for him there will be ignominy, chastisement, in this world — thus he [abū jahl] was slain on the day of badr — and on the day of resurrection we shall make him taste the chastisement of the burning, that is, [the chastisement of] being burnt in the fire, and it shall be said to him:
