٢٣ - ٱلْمُؤْمِنُون

23 - Al-Mu'minoon

يٰۗاَيُّہَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوْا مِنَ الطَّيِّبٰتِ وَاعْمَلُوْا صَالِحًا۝۰ۭ اِنِّىْ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ عَلِيْمٌ۝۵۱ۭ
Ya ayyuha alrrusulu kuloo mina alttayyibati waiAAmaloo salihan innee bima taAAmaloona AAaleemun

O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do.

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (o ye messengers!) the reference here is to muhammad (eat of the good thing) eat of the lawful things, (and do right) do righteous works between yourself and your lord. (lo! i am aware) i am aware of the reward (of what ye do) of what you do, o muhammad, and also of what they do.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : ‘o messengers, eat of the good things, the lawful things, and perform righteous acts, such as obligatory and supererogatory [rituals]. surely i know what you do, and will requite you for it.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : …eat of the good things and perform righteous acts…that is, ‘eat what is legitimate to sustain yourselves whilst keeping propriety.’ sustenance (qiwām) is that which you need to maintain your body while preserving your heart. propriety in this is to show gratitude (shukr) to the bestower of blessings (al-munʿim). the least amount of gratitude a person should show is not to disobey him by [abusing] any of the blessings [he has bestowed upon him].his words:
