٢٩ - ٱلْعَنْكَبُوت

29 - Al-Ankabut

فَاِذَا رَكِبُوْا فِي الْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا اللہَ مُخْلِصِيْنَ لَہُ الدِّيْنَ۝۰ۥۚ فَلَمَّا نَجّٰىہُمْ اِلَى الْبَرِّ اِذَا ہُمْ يُشْرِكُوْنَ۝۶۵ۙ
Faitha rakiboo fee alfulki daAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena falamma najjahum ila albarri itha hum yushrikoona

When they board a ship they call on God, placing their faith wholly in Him. But when He brings them safely back to shore, they begin to associate others with Him,

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (and when they) i.e. the disbelievers of mecca (mount upon the ships they pray to allah) for safety, (making their faith pure for him only) addressing him alone in their call, (but when he bringeth them safe to land, behold! they ascribe partners (unto him)) they associate idols with him,

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : and when they board the ship, they call on god, making their supplications purely to him, in other words, they do not call on any other besides him, suffering distress which only he is able to remove; but when he delivers them to land, behold! they ascribe partners, to him,
