٣٤ - سَبَأ

34 - Saba

قُلْ اِنَّ رَبِّيْ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَاۗءُ مِنْ عِبَادِہٖ وَيَقْدِرُ لَہٗ۝۰ۭ وَمَاۗ اَنْفَقْتُمْ مِّنْ شَيْءٍ فَہُوَ يُخْلِفُہٗ۝۰ۚ وَہُوَخَيْرُ الرّٰزِقِيْنَ۝۳۹
Qul inna rabbee yabsutu alrrizqa liman yashao min AAibadihi wayaqdiru lahu wama anfaqtum min shayin fahuwa yukhlifuhu wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena

Ahmed Ali

Say: "Verily my Lord increases or restricts the provision of any of His creatures as He will, and repays whatsoever you spend. He is the best of all providers."

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (say) to them, o muhammad: (lo! my lord enlargeth the provision for whom he will of his bondmen) as a lure to perdition, (and narroweth (it) for him) out of care for him. (and whatsoever ye spend (for good)) in the way of allah (he replaceth it) in the life of this world with wealth and in the hereafter with rewards. (and he is the best of providers) he is the best giver and the best replacer.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : say: ‘my lord extends provision, he makes it abundant, for whomever he will of his servants, as a test, and restricts [it] for him, after having extended it — or [he restricts it] for him whom he will to try, and whatever thing you may expend, for [the cause of] good, he will replace it. and he is the best of providers’. it is said that every man ‘provides for’ his dependants (yarzuqu ‘ā’ilatahu), meaning that [he does so] from the provision given [to him] by god.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : say, ‘my lord extends provision to whomever he wills of his servants, and restricts it for him…’he said:provision (rizq) is of two kinds: a provision that is remembrance [providing nourishment] for the spiritual self (nafs al-rūḥ), the intellect (ʿaql) and the heart (qalb), which resembles the sustenance of the angels — their very life (ʿaysh) is in remembrance, and were this to be withheldfrom them they would perish. the other kind of provision is that which is eaten, drunk and so on for the benefit of one’s [physical] nature (ṭabʿ). it is this kind which falls under what is permitted (ḥalāl) or prohibited (ḥarām). the legitimate is that which god, exalted is he, has provided for us, and commanded us to partake of. the prohibited, on the other hand, is what god, exalted is he, has provided but forbidden, and this is the portion of the fire. and i do not know anything more difficult than averting the harm [of others] (kaff al-adhā) and adhering to what is permitted.his words, exalted is he:
