٤٠ - غَافِر

40 - Ghafir

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا يُنَادَوْنَ لَمَقْتُ اللہِ اَكْبَرُ مِنْ مَّقْتِكُمْ اَنْفُسَكُمْ اِذْ تُدْعَوْنَ اِلَى الْاِيْمَانِ فَتَكْفُرُوْنَ۝۱۰
Inna allatheena kafaroo yunadawna lamaqtu Allahi akbaru min maqtikum anfusakum ith tudAAawna ila aleemani fatakfuroona

Those who disbelieve will certainly be told: "God's displeasure was greater than your disgust of your selves when you were called to belief and refused to believe."

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (lo! (on that day) those who disbelieve) in allah, the scriptures and messengers, each one will say to himself: i abhor you, o my self! (are informed by proclamation) and the angels will call to them: (verily allah's abhorrence) in the life of this world (is more terrible than your abhorrence one of another) today in the fire, (when ye were called unto the faith but did refuse) but denied.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : indeed to those who disbelieve it will be proclaimed [to them], from the part of the angels, as they [disbelievers] enter the fire in utter loathing of themselves: ‘surely god’s loathing, of you, is greater than your loathing of yourselves, as you were called, [during life] in this world, to faith but you used to disbelieve’.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : indeed [to] those who disbelieve it will be proclaimed, ‘surely god’s abhorrence is greater than your abhorrence of yourselves…’he said:abhorrence (maqt) is the most extreme form of alienation (ibʿād) from god, mighty and majestic is he. [furthermore], when the disbelievers enter the fire they abhor themselves. however, god’s abhorrence of their deeds is even severer [for them] than their entry into the fire.his words:
