Walaqad nasarakumu Allahu bibadrin waantum athillatun faittaqoo Allaha laAAallakum tashkuroona

For God had helped you during the Battle of Badr at a time when you were helpless. So act in compliance with the laws of God; you may well be grateful.

Tafseer
'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī
تفسير : (allah had already given you the victory at badr) on the day of the battle of badr, (when ye were contemptible) few in number: 313 men. (so observe your duty to allah) fear allah regarding the matter of war and do not disobey the leader who is in charge of you (in order that ye may be thankful) in order that you are thankful for his help and blessing.
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī
تفسير : when they were defeated, the following was revealed as a way of reminding them of god’s favour: god already gave you victory at badr, a location between mecca and medina, when you were contemptible, few in number and weapons. so fear god, in order that you might be thankful, for his blessings.
