47 - Muhammad

يٰۗاَيُّہَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْۗا اَطِيْعُوا اللہَ وَاَطِيْعُوا الرَّسُوْلَ وَلَا تُبْطِلُوْۗا اَعْمَالَكُمْ۝۳۳
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ateeAAoo Allaha waateeAAoo alrrasoola wala tubtiloo aAAmalakum

O you who believe, obey God and the Prophet, and do not waste your deeds.

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (o ye who believe) openly! (obey allah and obey the messenger) in private, (and render not your actions vain) through hypocrisy, hatred, enmity and opposition of the messenger; it is also said that this verse was revealed about true believers. allah says to them: o you who believe in muhammad (pbuh) and the qur'an, obey allah in that which he commands you of obligations and spending, and obey also the messenger in that which he commands you of the sunnah, conquest and jihad; and do not annul your works through ostentation and seeking fame.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : o you who believe! obey god and obey the messenger, and do not render your own works void, by [engaging in] acts of disobedience, for example.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : …obey god and obey the messenger…that is, in revering (taʿẓīm) god. …do not render your own works void, that is, by seeing them as coming from yourselves and by seeking recompense (aʿwāḍ) from your lord, for sincere works are those that are done without seeking recompense.his words, exalted is he:
