'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī
تفسير : ((and it is said): that) reward and honour (is that which ye were promised) in the life of the world. ((it is) for every penitent) who turns to allah and his obedience (and heedful one) observant of allah's command in his private moment; and it is also said: in his prayers,
Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī
تفسير : ‘this, that you see, is what you were promised (read tū‘adūna, or [third person plural] yū‘adūna, ‘they were promised’), in the world (and [what follows] substitutes for li’l-muttaqīna, ‘for the god-fearing’) — [it is] for every penitent one, [for every] person reverting [after sin] to obedience of god, who is mindful, mindful of the bounds [of god’s religion],
Sahl al-Tustari
تفسير : ‘…[it is] for everyone who is oft-returning (awwāb), heedful (ḥafīẓ) of god…’ he said:he is the one who turns back with his heart from evil suggestions to tranquil reliance (sukūn) on god, exalted is he, and is the heedful one (ḥafīẓ), who guards his moments (awqāt) and states (aḥwāl), [while] keeping to his commandments and observing acts of obedience.ibn ʿayniyya said, ‘the one who is oft-returning, heedful of god is the person who does not get up from a gathering until he has asked for god’s forgiveness for it, regardless of whether it was good or bad, due to the imperfection and deficiency that he sees in it.’ his words, exalted is he:
