٧٠ - ٱلْمَعَارِج

70 - Al-Ma'aarij

خَاشِعَۃً اَبْصَارُہُمْ تَرْہَقُہُمْ ذِلَّۃٌ۝۰ۭ ذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِيْ كَانُوْا يُوْعَدُوْنَ۝۴۴ۧ
KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allathee kanoo yooAAadoona

Eyes lowered, shame attending. That is the day they have been promised!

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (with eyes) that see no goodness (aghast) humiliated, (abasement stupefying them) grief and darkness appear on their faces: (such is the day which they are promised) such is the day in which they were promised chastisement; and this day is the day of judgement. and this promise is like the promise and warning of noah'.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : with their eyes humbled, abject, overcast by abasement, shrouded in it. such is the day which they are promised (dhālika is the subject and what follows it is the predicate), meaning: the day of resurrection.
