٩٠ - ٱلْبَلَد

90 - Al-Balad

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَۃِ۝۱۷ۭ
Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoo watawasaw bialssabri watawasaw bialmarhamati

And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind.

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (and to be) in addition to this (of those who believe) in private between themselves and their lord, in muhammad (pbuh) and the qur'an (and exhort one another to perseverance) in fulfilling the obligations (and export one another to pity) towards the poor and needy.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : while being (thumma kāna is a supplement to iqtahama, ‘he assaulted’; thumma is for the ordering of things to be mentioned) in other words, [what is meant is that] at the point of the assault he was: one of those who believe and enjoin one another to steadfastness, in [pursuing] obedience and in refraining from disobedience, and enjoin one another to compassion (marhama means rahma), towards creatures.

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : (while being one of those who believe and who) enjoin one another to steadfastness and enjoin one another to compassion.he said:that is, steadfastness (ṣabr) in keeping god’s commandments, and in being compassionate with people.the messenger of god <img border="0" src="images/salatonmassenger.jpg" width="24" height="22"> was once asked, ‘what is islam?’ he replied, ‘it is patience (ṣabr) and magnanimity (samāḥ).’ then he was asked, ‘what is faith?’ he replied, ‘goodness in speech (ṭayyib al-kalām), and offering [others] food.’sahl said:the best speech (aṭyab al-kalām) is the remembrance (dhikr) of god, exalted is he.
