101 - Al-Qaria

وَمَاۗ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الْقَارِعَۃُ۝۳ۭ
Wama adraka ma alqariAAatu

Tafseer

'Abdullāh Ibn 'Abbās / Muḥammad al-Fīrūzabādī

تفسير : (ah, what will convey unto thee) o muhammad (what the calamity is!) he said this to show its tremendousness.

Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī

تفسير : and what will show you, [what] will make known to you, what the clattering blow is? — additional emphasis of its awesomeness (the first mā is a subject, and what follows it is its predicate; the second mā and its predicate also function together as the second direct object of [the verb] adrā, ‘show’).

Sahl al-Tustari

تفسير : what will show you what the crashing blow is?this is a way of magnifying it due to its severity (shidda). everything in the qurʾān which is preceded by the words: what will show you? is something about which he has not yet provided information, just as he said: and what will explain [it] to you? the hour may well be near [33:63]; he had not informed [the prophet] of it up until his words: what will show you what the crashing blow is? then he informed [him] about it.his words, exalted is he:
