The Liverpool Mosque & Islamic Institute was built by Abdullah Quilliam – a 19th-century British revert. After he reverted, he set up a small mosque at 8 Brougham Terrace, located on West Derby Road, with Mrs. Elizabeth Cates. Eventually, in 1891, the Liverpool Mosque and Islamic Institute was officially founded. This is considered the first mosque in the United Kingdom. The mosque holds great historic significance for the history of mosques in the United Kingdom. Maulana Barkatullah also worked at the mosque from 1895 to 1899. Robert Stanley – another well-known British revert, served as the vice president of the mosque.
