2. Jami Masjid and Islamic Centre (JMIC)

 

Birmingham Jami Masjid and Islamic Centre was established in 1973 and has grown significantly since its inception due to the support and devotion of the Bangladeshi Muslim community. Along with religious services, Jami Masjid has always served the community during challenging times. Jami Masjid offers various Islamic educational programs, such as the Raheem Academy, which provides standard Islamic education for Muslim boys and girls between the ages of five and 16.

 

Another program is the Darul Uloom Islamic High School and College, which offers Hifz and Alimiya programs and routine education. 3. Masjid Hamza

 

Masjid Hamza, known initially as Woodstock Road Masjid, has served Birmingham's Muslim community for over three decades. The origins of the masjid date back to the 1960s when Indian sub-continent Muslims settled in the UK. Known to be among the first mosques in Birmingham, Masjid Hamza encouraged Muslims to offer daily prayers in congregation and established Muslim individuality in Birmingham. In the early 1970s, Masjid Hamza started an after-school and weekend madrassa to educate the community about Islamic teachings.

 

Currently, the masjid also offers weekly educational services, such as Quran and Tajweed classes in English and Urdu for men and women. In 1998, the Masjid Hamza began an extension project to provide new services to the community; the project is still ongoing, and the new facilities benefit the community. Besides educational services, Masjid Hamza is devoted to helping the Muslim community. Its Day Centre serves as a meeting place for the elderly community. The function hall can accommodate 250 people and is used for weddings, Aqeeqa, and other events. Moreover, the Majid provides bereavement counselling and funeral arrangements.

Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre is run by Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, UK. The centre aims to inspire and serve the Muslim and non-Muslim communities and educate them about Islam. It is located in a historic building acquired in 1979. The masjid has undergone extensive renovation and expansion over the past few years to accommodate residencies, increase space for prayer, and add a mortuary facility. 

 

Regarding educational services, the Green Lane Academy of Sacred Sciences (GLASS) is an initiative of the Green Lane Masjid that offers to enhance knowledge about the Quran and the Arabic language. The academy also established a Sisters Tarbiyah Department 10 years ago, which provides Islamic knowledge to women.
