Leicester is among the most ethnically diverse cities in the United Kingdom. Leicester's population was 279,921 per the 2001 Census, of which more than 30,000 (11 percent) were Muslims. This made the latter the third-largest religious group in Leicester after Christians and Hindus. With the rapid growth of Islam in the United Kingdom, the above statistics have changed significantly in the last decade. According to the 2021 census, the Muslim population in Leicester was 86,443 (23.6 percent). The city features beautiful historic mosques and Islamic community centres that welcome worshippers during prayer times in Leicester. Established in 1968, the Islamic Centre Leicester has remained dedicated to serving and improving the Muslim and broader community. It is the leading Muslim organization in Leicester that features two Mosques – The Leicester Central Mosque and the Leicester Mosque / Islamic Centre. The Islamic Centre Leicester offers various educational, social, and religious services, including the Islamic Centre Women's Association (ICWA). The latter works for the welfare of Muslim women, increases their knowledge of Islam, and helps develop their self-confidence. The organization also organises Dars-e-Quran and Naat competitions.
The Islamic Centre Leicester's Madrassa welcomes children and young adults. Currently, the Madrassa has 225 students aged four to 13. Daily classes focus on Tajweed, Islamic principles and history, Salah, Fiqh, and Arabic language. The Madrassa is run from four locations: Sutherland St. Mosque, Leicester Central Mosque, Uplands Infants School, and Highfields Primary School. In addition, The Islamic Centre Leicester also provides guest residences and lecture halls, sports and gym facilities, and mortuary and burial services.

Masjid Umar serves the diverse and vibrant Muslim community residing in and around the Evington area and can accommodate 1,200 worshippers. Completed in late 2000, Masjid Umar was described as a religious institution with "presence, integrity, and modesty." Moreover, the mosque was shortlisted in 2005 for the ACE / RIBA Award for Religious Architecture and won the People's Choice Project of the Year Award 2003.
Masjid Umar offers Nikkah and Funeral services for the residents of Leicester. Moreover, Sadaqah-e-Fitr 2023 was distributed to beneficiaries in Zumba Malawi on behalf of Masjid Umar donors. A total of 1600 parcels were distributed, and each parcel contained sufficient food to feed a family of four for one month. Another project of Masjid Umar is Masjid-e-Tabuk. A total of £93,750 is required to complete Phase 2, and the management committee is currently asking for donations.
Established in 1977, Jame' Masjid began with a few worshippers performing daily prayers in a 'small hall.' Presently, the masjid is one of the largest in Leicester and offers various services to the local community, such as religious guidance and counselling, marriage services, funeral and bereavement services, and daily lectures. The educational departments of the Masjid (Madrassah) are known as Jame'ah Uloomul Qur'an. Numerous classes and courses are taught for children, young adults, and adults (male and female), including Maktab /Evening Madrassah, Hifz Classes, Part-time' Ilmiyyah Classes, and Darul Uloom / 'Ilmiyyah Full-time classes. Jame' masjid also provides Islam-embracing services conducted by an Imam who talks with the individual and ascertains their needs.
Masjid-e-Abu Bakr, known as Narborough Road Islamic Centre, serves Muslims of various backgrounds and nationalities. In addition to five times congregational prayers and weekly Friday prayers, Masjid-e-Abu Bakr conducts annual Ramadan and Eid Prayers. Since the mosque is near the busy main motorway, it is very convenient for travellers. Besides religious services, Masjid-e-Abu Bakr provides Islamic education for young children and teenagers after regular school. The courses include the foundations of the Arabic Alphabet, Tajweed, fluent recitation of the Holy Quran, and education on Aqeedah (beliefs), Sunnah, and Fiqh (practices).
Masjid Muadh-ibn-Jabal serves more than 500 Muslim families in and around the outskirts of Leicester City, including Coleman Road, Uppingham Road, Spencefield Lane, and Wakerley Road. The mosque is a central gathering point and fosters a sense of unity among the local Muslim community. Masjid Muadh-ibn-Jabal provides many services to the community, such as the intensive, disciplined, and academically robust Iftaa Training course and research. The masjid also answers global Fiqh questions online, on-site, and via phone. In addition, the Shariah council provides advisory services on investments, finance, wills, estate, Halal food, medical ethics, Zakat, marriage, and divorce.
