٤٠ - غَافِر

40 - Ghafir

اَوَلَمْ يَسِيْرُوْا فِي الْاَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوْا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَۃُ الَّذِيْنَ كَانُوْا مِنْ قَبْلِہِمْ۝۰ۭ كَانُوْا ہُمْ اَشَدَّ مِنْہُمْ قُوَّۃً وَّاٰثَارًا فِي الْاَرْضِ فَاَخَذَہُمُ اللہُ بِذُنُوْبِہِمْ۝۰ۭ وَمَا كَانَ لَہُمْ مِّنَ اللہِ مِنْ وَّاقٍ۝۲۱
Awa lam yaseeroo fee alardi fayanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena kanoo min qablihim kanoo hum ashadda minhum quwwatan waatharan fee alardi faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihim wama kana lahum mina Allahi min waqin

Ahmed Ali

Have they not travelled on the earth that they could see what happened to those before them? They were greater in strength than they, and have left behind them traces on the earth. Yet they were seized by God for their sins, and had none to protect them against God.

21

ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّہُمْ كَانَتْ تَّاْتِيْہِمْ رُسُلُہُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَكَفَرُوْا فَاَخَذَہُمُ اؙ۝۰ۭ اِنَّہٗ قَوِيٌّ شَدِيْدُ الْعِقَابِ۝۲۲
Thalika biannahum kanat tateehim rusuluhum bialbayyinati fakafaroo faakhathahumu Allahu innahu qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqabi

Ahmed Ali

This was so because their apostles came with clear proofs to them, but they refused to believe. So they were seized by God. Surely God is powerful, unrelenting in retribution.

22

وَلَـقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا مُوْسٰى بِاٰيٰتِنَا وَسُلْطٰنٍ مُّبِيْنٍ۝۲۳ۙ
Walaqad arsalna moosa biayatina wasultanin mubeenin

We sent Moses with Our signs and clear authority

23

اِلٰى فِرْعَوْنَ وَ ہَامٰنَ وَقَارُوْنَ فَقَالُوْا سٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ۝۲۴
Ila firAAawna wahamana waqaroona faqaloo sahirun kaththabun

English

Ahmed Ali

To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun. But they said: "He is only a deceiving sorcerer."

24

فَلَمَّا جَاۗءَہُمْ بِالْحَقِّ مِنْ عِنْدِنَا قَالُوا اقْتُلُوْۗا اَبْنَاۗءَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَہٗ وَاسْتَحْيُوْا نِسَاۗءَہُمْ۝۰ۭ وَمَا كَيْدُ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ۝۲۵
Falamma jaahum bialhaqqi min AAindina qaloo oqtuloo abnaa allatheena amanoo maAAahu waistahyoo nisaahum wama kaydu alkafireena illa fee dalalin

Ahmed Ali

And when he brought the truth to them from Us, they said: "Slay the sons of those who believe with him, and spare their women." But the unbelievers' stratagem is bound to fail.

25

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ ذَرُوْنِيْۗ اَقْتُلْ مُوْسٰى وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّہٗ۝۰ۚ اِنِّىْۗ اَخَافُ اَنْ يُّبَدِّلَ دِيْنَكُمْ اَوْ اَنْ يُّظْہِرَ فِي الْاَرْضِ الْفَسَادَ۝۲۶
Waqala firAAawnu tharoonee aqtul moosa walyadAAu rabbahu innee akhafu an yubaddila deenakum aw an yuthhira fee alardi alfasada

Ahmed Ali

"Let me kill Moses," the Pharaoh said, "and let him call to his Lord. I fear that he will change your faith and spread corruption in the land."

26

وَقَالَ مُوْسٰۗى اِنِّىْ عُذْتُ بِرَبِّيْ وَرَبِّكُمْ مِّنْ كُلِّ مُتَكَبِّرٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ۝۲۷ۧ
Waqala moosa innee AAuthtu birabbee warabbikum min kulli mutakabbirin la yuminu biyawmi alhisabi

Ahmed Ali

Moses said: "I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every insolent imposter who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning."

27

وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ ￁مِنٌ۝۰ۤۖ مِّنْ اٰلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَكْتُمُ اِيْمَانَہٗۗ اَتَقْتُلُوْنَ رَجُلًا اَنْ يَّقُوْلَ رَبِّيَ اللہُ وَقَدْ جَاۗءَكُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ مِنْ رَّبِّكُمْ۝۰ۭ وَاِنْ يَّكُ كَاذِبًا فَعَلَيْہِ كَذِبُہٗ۝۰ۚ وَاِنْ يَّكُ صَادِقًا يُّصِبْكُمْ بَعْضُ الَّذِيْ يَعِدُكُمْ۝۰ۭ اِنَّ اللہَ لَا يَہْدِيْ مَنْ ہُوَمُسْرِفٌ كَذَّابٌ۝۲۸
Waqala rajulun muminun min ali firAAawna yaktumu eemanahu ataqtuloona rajulan an yaqoola rabbiyya Allahu waqad jaakum bialbayyinati min rabbikum wain yaku kathiban faAAalayhi kathibuhu wain yaku sadiqan yusibkum baAAdu allathee yaAAidukum inna Allaha la yahdee man huwa musrifun kaththabun

Ahmed Ali

A believer from the House of Pharaoh who had kept his faith to himself, said: "Will you kill a man because he says: 'My Lord is God,' when he has brought clear signs from his Lord to you? If he is a liar his lie will recoil back on him; but in case he speaks the truth, then what he predicts will befall you. Surely God does not show the way to the shameful liar.

28

يٰقَوْمِ لَكُمُ الْمُلْكُ الْيَوْمَ ظٰہِرِيْنَ فِي الْاَرْضِ۝۰ۡ فَمَنْ يَّنْصُرُنَا مِنْۢ بَاْسِ اللہِ اِنْ جَاۗءَنَا۝۰ۭ قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ مَاۗ اُرِيْكُمْ اِلَّا مَاۗ اَرٰى وَمَاۗ اَہْدِيْكُمْ اِلَّا سَبِيْلَ الرَّشَادِ۝۲۹
Ya qawmi lakumu almulku alyawma thahireena fee alardi faman yansuruna min basi Allahi in jaana qala firAAawnu ma oreekum illa ma ara wama ahdeekum illa sabeela alrrashadi

Ahmed Ali

O my people, authority is yours today being the most powerful in the land; but who will save us from the scourge of God if it fall upon us?" "I show you," said the Pharaoh, "only what I see (is right), and guide you but to the right path."

29

وَقَالَ الَّذِيْۗ اٰمَنَ يٰقَوْمِ اِنِّىْۗ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّثْلَ يَوْمِ الْاَحْزَابِ۝۳۰ۙ
Waqala allathee amana ya qawmi innee akhafu AAalaykum mithla yawmi alahzabi

Ahmed Ali

But the man of belief said: "O my people, what I fear for you is the like of what befell the communities (of old).
