٤ - ٱلنِّسَاء

4 - An-Nisa

وَالّٰتِيْ يَاْتِيْنَ الْفَاحِشَۃَ مِنْ نِّسَاۗىِٕكُمْ فَاسْتَشْہِدُوْا عَلَيْہِنَّ اَرْبَعَۃً مِّنْكُمْ۝۰ۚ فَاِنْ شَہِدُوْا فَاَمْسِكُوْھُنَّ فِي الْبُيُوْتِ حَتّٰى يَتَوَفّٰىھُنَّ الْمَوْتُ اَوْ يَجْعَلَ اللہُ لَھُنَّ سَبِيْلًا۝۱۵
Waallatee yateena alfahishata min nisaikum faistashhidoo AAalayhinna arbaAAatan minkum fain shahidoo faamsikoohunna fee albuyooti hatta yatawaffahunna almawtu aw yajAAala Allahu lahunna sabeelan

If any of your women is guilty of unnatural offence, bring four of your witnesses to give evidence; if they testify against them, retain them in the houses until death overtakes them or God provides some other way for them.

15

وَالَّذٰنِ يَاْتِيٰنِھَا مِنْكُمْ فَاٰذُوْھُمَا۝۰ۚ فَاِنْ تَابَا وَاَصْلَحَا فَاَعْرِضُوْا عَنْہُمَا۝۰ۭ اِنَّ اللہَ كَانَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِـيْمًا۝۱۶
Waallathani yatiyaniha minkum faathoohuma fain taba waaslaha faaAAridoo AAanhuma inna Allaha kana tawwaban raheeman

Ahmed Ali

If two (men) among you are guilty of such acts then punish both of them. But if they repent and reform, let them be, for God accepts repentance and is merciful.

16

اِنَّمَا التَّوْبَۃُ عَلَي اللہِ لِلَّذِيْنَ يَعْمَلُوْنَ السُّوْۗءَ بِجَہَالَۃٍ ثُمَّ يَتُوْبُوْنَ مِنْ قَرِيْبٍ فَاُولٰۗىِٕكَ يَتُوْبُ اللہُ عَلَيْھِمْ۝۰ۭ وَكَانَ اللہُ عَلِــيْمًا حَكِـيْمًا۝۱۷
Innama alttawbatu AAala Allahi lillatheena yaAAmaloona alssooa bijahalatin thumma yatooboona min qareebin faolaika yatoobu Allahu AAalayhim wakana Allahu AAaleeman hakeeman

Ahmed Ali

God does accept repentance, but only of those who are guilty of an evil out of ignorance yet quickly repent, and God turns to them again, for God is all-knowing and all-wise.

17

وَلَيْسَتِ التَّوْبَۃُ لِلَّذِيْنَ يَعْمَلُوْنَ السَّـيِّاٰتِ۝۰ۚ حَتّٰۗي اِذَا حَضَرَ اَحَدَھُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ اِنِّىْ تُبْتُ الْـــٰٔنَ وَلَا الَّذِيْنَ يَمُوْتُوْنَ وَھُمْ كُفَّارٌ۝۰ۭ اُولٰۗىِٕكَ اَعْتَدْنَا لَھُمْ عَذَابًا اَلِـــيْمًا۝۱۸
Walaysati alttawbatu lillatheena yaAAmaloona alssayyiati hatta itha hadara ahadahumu almawtu qala innee tubtu alana wala allatheena yamootoona wahum kuffarun olaika aAAtadna lahum AAathaban aleeman

Ahmed Ali

But (He does not accept) the repentance of those who continue indulging in evil until death draws near and they say: "We now repent;" nor of those who die disbelieving. For them We have a grievous retribution in wait.

18

يٰۗاَيُّھَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ اَنْ تَرِثُوا النِّسَاۗءَ كَرْہًا۝۰ۭ وَلَا تَعْضُلُوْھُنَّ لِتَذْہَبُوْا بِبَعْضِ مَاۗ اٰتَيْتُمُوْھُنَّ اِلَّاۗ اَنْ يَّاْتِيْنَ بِفَاحِشَۃٍ مُّبَيِّنَۃٍ۝۰ۚ وَعَاشِرُوْھُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ۝۰ۚ فَاِنْ كَرِھْتُمُوْھُنَّ فَعَسٰۗى اَنْ تَكْرَہُوْا شَـيْــــًٔـا وَّيَجْعَلَ اللہُ فِيْہِ خَيْرًا كَثِيْرًا۝۱۹
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la yahillu lakum an tarithoo alnnisaa karhan wala taAAduloohunna litathhaboo bibaAAdi ma ataytumoohunna illa an yateena bifahishatin mubayyinatin waAAashiroohunna bialmaAAroofi fain karihtumoohunna faAAasa an takrahoo shayan wayajAAala Allahu feehi khayran katheeran

O believers, you are not allowed to take perforce the women (of dead relatives) into your heritage, or tyrannise over them in order to deprive them of what you have given them, unless they are guilty of open adultery. Live with them with tolerance and justice even if you do not care for them. For it may well be you may not like a thing, yet God may have endued it with much goodness.

19

وَاِنْ اَرَدْتُّمُ اسْتِبْدَالَ زَوْجٍ مَّكَانَ زَوْجٍ۝۰ۙ وَّاٰتَيْتُمْ اِحْدٰىھُنَّ قِنْطَارًا فَلَا تَاْخُذُوْا مِنْہُ شَـيْـــًٔـا۝۰ۭ اَتَاْخُذُوْنَہٗ بُھْتَانًا وَّاِثْمًا مُّبِيْنًا۝۲۰
Wain aradtumu istibdala zawjin makana zawjin waataytum ihdahunna qintaran fala takhuthoo minhu shayan atakhuthoonahu buhtanan waithman mubeenan

If you want to take another wife in place of the one you are married to, then even if you have given her a talent of gold, do not take back a thing. Would you take it away by slandering and using unjust means?

20

وَ كَيْفَ تَاْخُذُوْنَہٗ وَقَدْ اَفْضٰى بَعْضُكُمْ اِلٰى بَعْضٍ وَّاَخَذْنَ مِنْكُمْ مِّيْثَاقًا غَلِيْظًا۝۲۱
Wakayfa takhuthoonahu waqad afda baAAdukum ila baAAdin waakhathna minkum meethaqan ghaleethan

How could you do that having slept with one another, and when they had taken a solemn pledge from you?

21

وَلَا تَنْكِحُوْا مَا نَكَحَ اٰبَاۗؤُكُمْ مِّنَ النِّسَاۗءِ اِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ۝۰ۭ اِنَّہٗ كَانَ فَاحِشَۃً وَّمَقْتًا۝۰ۭ وَسَاۗءَ سَبِيْلًا۝۲۲ۧ
Wala tankihoo ma nakaha abaokum mina alnnisai illa ma qad salafa innahu kana fahishatan wamaqtan wasaa sabeelan

Ahmed Ali

And do not wed the women your fathers had wed. What happened in the past is now past: It was lewd and abhorrent, and only the way of evil.
