Surah Abasa is the 80th chapter of the Holy Quran. This Surah is named after the word Abasa, which means ‘He Frowned’ that appears in the first verse. It contains 42 verses and was revealed in Makkah before the Prophet's (ﷺ) migration to Madinah. This surah is located in the 30th para.
Surah Abasa begins with an incident about a blind and pious man who came to the Prophet (ﷺ) seeking knowledge. At the time, the leaders of Makkah were gathered with him, so he frowned and asked the man to wait until he finished his conversation.
Then this Surah was revealed, teaching us that while preaching and guiding others, priority should be given to those who really want to learn. Those who embrace this message will gain from it, and those who reject it will be at a disadvantage. Surah Abasa also reminds man of Allah’s (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) creations and His blessings. Moreover, it talks about the events of the Day of Judgment and the fate of people on that day.
