١٦ - ٱلنَّحْل

16 - An-Nahl

ضَرَبَ اللہُ مَثَلًا عَبْدًا مَّمْلُوْكًا لَّا يَـقْدِرُ عَلٰي شَيْءٍ وَّمَنْ رَّزَقْنٰہُ مِنَّا رِزْقًا حَسَـنًا فَہُوَيُنْفِقُ مِنْہُ سِرًّا وَّجَہْرًا۝۰ۭ ہَلْ يَسْتَوٗنَ۝۰ۭ اَلْحَمْدُ لِلہِ۝۰ۭ بَلْ اَكْثَرُہُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ۝۷۵
Daraba Allahu mathalan AAabdan mamlookan la yaqdiru AAala shayin waman razaqnahu minna rizqan hasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirran wajahran hal yastawoona alhamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona

Ahmed Ali

God presents the example of a man who is a hired servant with no power over anything, and another on whom We have bestowed a handsome fortune, who spends from it in private and in public: Can they be equal? Praised be God! But most men do not understand.

75

وَضَرَبَ اللہُ مَثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ اَحَدُہُمَاۗ اَبْكَمُ لَا يَـقْدِرُ عَلٰي شَيْءٍ وَّہُوَ كَلٌّ عَلٰي مَوْلٰىہُ۝۰ۙ اَيْنَـمَا يُوَجِّہْہُّ لَا يَاْتِ بِخَيْرٍ۝۰ۭ ہَلْ يَسْتَوِيْ ہُوَ۝۰ۙ وَمَنْ يَّاْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ۝۰ۙ وَہُوَعَلٰي صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَــقِيْمٍ۝۷۶ۧ
Wadaraba Allahu mathalan rajulayni ahaduhuma abkamu la yaqdiru AAala shayin wahuwa kallun AAala mawlahu aynama yuwajjihhu la yati bikhayrin hal yastawee huwa waman yamuru bialAAadli wahuwa AAala siratin mustaqeemin

God presents another example of two men, one dumb and unable to do a thing and is a burden on his master. Wherever he is sent he returns without any good (result). Could he be equal to one who enjoins what is just, and follows the right path?

76

وَلِلہِ غَيْبُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ۝۰ۭ وَمَاۗ اَمْرُ السَّاعَۃِ اِلَّا كَلَمْحِ الْبَصَرِ اَوْ ہُوَاَقْرَبُ۝۰ۭ اِنَّ اللہَ عَلٰي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ۝۷۷
Walillahi ghaybu alssamawati waalardi wama amru alssaAAati illa kalamhi albasari aw huwa aqrabu inna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

Ahmed Ali

To God belong the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and the Hour of Doom is a matter of the winking of an eye, even less, for God has certainly power over all things.

77

وَاللہُ اَخْرَجَكُمْ مِّنْۢ بُطُوْنِ اُمَّہٰتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ شَـيْـــًٔـا۝۰ۙ وَّ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْاَبْصَارَ وَالْاَفْــِٕدَۃَ۝۰ۙ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُوْنَ۝۷۸
WaAllahu akhrajakum min butooni ommahatikum la taAAlamoona shayan wajaAAala lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata laAAallakum tashkuroona

Ahmed Ali

God produced you from your mothers' wombs knowing nothing, but gave you ears and eyes and hearts so that you may be grateful.

78

اَلَمْ يَرَوْا اِلَى الطَّيْرِ مُسَخَّرٰتٍ فِيْ جَوِّ السَّمَاۗءِ۝۰ۭ مَا يُمْسِكُہُنَّ اِلَّا اؙ۝۰ۭ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُّؤْمِنُوْنَ۝۷۹
Alam yaraw ila alttayri musakhkharatin fee jawwi alssamai ma yumsikuhunna illa Allahu inna fee thalika laayatin liqawmin yuminoona

Ahmed Ali

Do you not see the birds held high between the heavens and the earth? Nothing holds them (aloft) but God. There are verily signs in this for those who believe.

79

وَاللہُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّنْۢ بُيُوْتِكُمْ سَكَنًا وَّجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّنْ جُلُوْدِ الْاَنْعَامِ بُيُوْتًا تَسْتَخِفُّوْنَہَا يَوْمَ ظَعْنِكُمْ وَيَوْمَ اِقَامَتِكُمْ۝۰ۙ وَمِنْ اَصْوَافِہَا وَاَوْبَارِہَا وَاَشْعَارِہَاۗ اَثَاثًا وَّمَتَاعًا اِلٰى حِيْنٍ۝۸۰
WaAllahu jaAAala lakum min buyootikum sakanan wajaAAala lakum min juloodi alanAAami buyootan tastakhiffoonaha yawma thaAAnikum wayawma iqamatikum wamin aswafiha waawbariha waashAAariha athathan wamataAAan ila heenin

Ahmed Ali

God has given you homes to live in, and tents (made) from the hides of cattle convenient for days of travelling and halting; and from their wool and fur and hair you make domestic articles and goods that last a certain time.

80

وَاللہُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلٰلًا وَّجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّنَ الْجِبَالِ اَكْنَانًا وَّجَعَلَ لَكُمْ سَرَابِيْلَ تَـقِيْكُمُ الْحَـرَّ وَسَرَابِيْلَ تَقِيْكُمْ بَاْسَكُمْ۝۰ۭ كَذٰلِكَ يُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَہٗ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْلِمُوْنَ۝۸۱
WaAllahu jaAAala lakum mimma khalaqa thilalan wajaAAala lakum mina aljibali aknanan wajaAAala lakum sarabeela taqeekumu alharra wasarabeela taqeekum basakum kathalika yutimmu niAAmatahu AAalaykum laAAallakum tuslimoona

God has given you of things created, shade, and places of shelter in the mountains, and clothes for protection against the heat, and coats (of mail) for defence during war. He thus bestows His favours on you so that you may be grateful to Him.

81

فَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَاِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلٰغُ الْمُبِيْنُ۝۸۲
Fain tawallaw fainnama AAalayka albalaghu almubeenu

If they still turn away, your duty is to warn them in clear terms.

82

يَعْرِفُوْنَ نِعْمَتَ اللہِ ثُمَّ يُنْكِرُوْنَہَا وَاَكْثَرُہُمُ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ۝۸۳ۧ
YaAArifoona niAAmata Allahi thumma yunkiroonaha waaktharuhumu alkafiroona

They do know the favours of God, and yet they deny them, for most of them are not grateful.

83

وَيَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ مِنْ كُلِّ اُمَّۃٍ شَہِيْدًا ثُمَّ لَا يُؤْذَنُ لِلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا وَلَا ہُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُوْنَ۝۸۴
Wayawma nabAAathu min kulli ommatin shaheedan thumma la yuthanu lillatheena kafaroo wala hum yustaAAtaboona

The day We shall call a witness from every people, the unbelievers will not be allowed to make excuses.
