Manzil

Manzil is the division of the Quran into seven portions. It was done to assist those who wanted to read the Quran in seven days. They can simply read one manzil a day to reach their goal of completing the Quran in a week. The division of the Quran into Manzil was done by Abu ‘Imarah Hamzah Ibn Habib al-Zayyat al-Taymi, better known as Hamzah az-Zaiyyat. He was one of the seven canonical transmitters of the Qira'at.

The division is as follows:

  1. Al-Fatiha (chapter 1) through An-Nisa (chapter 4) consists of 4 chapters (Surah).
  2. Al-Ma'idah (chapter 5) through At-Tawbah (chapter 9) consists of 5 chapters.
  3. Yunus (chapter 10) through An-Nahl (chapter 16) consists of 7 chapters.
  4. “Al-Isra'' (chapter 17) through Al-Furqan (chapter 25) consists of 9 chapters.
  5. Ash-Shu'ara' (chapter 26) through Ya-Sin (chapter 36) consists of 11 chapters.
  6. As-Saaffat (chapter 37) through Al-Hujurat (chapter 49) consists of 13 chapters.
  7. Qaf (chapter 50) through Al-Nas (chapter 114) comprises 65 chapters.

The Quran is the message of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) that describes a complete code of life for Muslims. Reciting and reflecting on the verses of the Quran and their meaning has numerous benefits, as described by Ahadith.

Each Ahadith is a source of motivation and encouragement to read, understand and implement the Quran in our daily lives. A few hadith are enlisted below:

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

I heard the Messenger of Allah () saying, "Read the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection."

(Riyadh-as-Salihin 991)

An-Nawwas bin Sam'an (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

I heard the Messenger of Allah () saying, "The Qur'an and its people who applied it, will be brought on the Day of Resurrection preceded with Surat Al-Baqarah and Surat Al-'Imran arguing on behalf of those who applied them."  (Riyad as-Salihin 992)

We’ll be enlisting two more Hadith here, highlighting the virtues of reciting the Quran. For more details, you can click here. (If it seems okay to you, you can add a Muslim and Quran Hadith section link here related to Quran recitation.)

Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah () said, "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter."

To those who read the Quran with love, but stammer, here is a glad tiding for you from the mother of believers Hazrat Aisha

The Messenger of Allah () said, "The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur'an will be with the honorable and obedient scribes (angels), and he who recites the Qur'an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have two rewards.
