11 - Houd

مَثَلُ الْفَرِيْقَيْنِ كَالْاَعْمٰى وَالْاَصَمِّ وَالْبَصِيْرِ وَالسَّمِيْعِ۝۰ۭ ہَلْ يَسْتَوِيٰنِ مَثَلًا۝۰ۭ اَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ۝۲۴ۧ
Mathalu alfareeqayni kaalaAAma waalasammi waalbaseeri waalssameeAAi hal yastawiyani mathalan afala tathakkaroona

Ahmed Ali

The semblance of these two groups is that of a man who is deaf and blind, and the other who can hear and see. Can they be equal? Why do you not reflect?

24

وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا نُوْحًا اِلٰي قَوْمِہٖۗ۝۰ۡاِنِّىْ لَكُمْ نَذِيْرٌ مُّبِيْنٌ۝۲۵ۙ
Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi innee lakum natheerun mubeenun

Ahmed Ali

We sent Noah to his people (and he said): "I give you a clear warning.

25

اَنْ لَّا تَعْبُدُوْۗا اِلَّا اللہَ۝۰ۭ اِنِّىْۗ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ اَلِيْمٍ۝۲۶
An la taAAbudoo illa Allaha innee akhafu AAalaykum AAathaba yawmin aleemin

Ahmed Ali

Do not worship anyone but God; for I fear the punishment of a dreadful day for you."

26

فَقَالَ الْمَلَاُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ قَوْمِہٖ مَا نَرٰىكَ اِلَّا بَشَرًا مِّثْلَنَا وَمَا نَرٰىكَ اتَّبَعَكَ اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ ہُمْ اَرَاذِلُـنَا بَادِيَ الرَّاْيِ۝۰ۚ وَمَا نَرٰي لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ فَضْلٍؚبَلْ نَظُنُّكُمْ كٰذِبِيْنَ۝۲۷
Faqala almalao allatheena kafaroo min qawmihi ma naraka illa basharan mithlana wama naraka ittabaAAaka illa allatheena hum arathiluna badiya alrrayi wama nara lakum AAalayna min fadlin bal nathunnukum kathibeena

Ahmed Ali

The leaders of the people who were unbelievers, replied: "We see that you are but a man like us, and see that none among us follows you but the meanest and immature of judgement, and do not see any excellence in you above us. In fact, we think you are a liar."

27

قَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اَرَءَيْتُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُ عَلٰي بَيِّنَۃٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّيْ وَاٰتٰىنِيْ رَحْمَۃً مِّنْ عِنْدِہٖ فَعُمِّيَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ۝۰ۭ اَنُلْزِمُكُمُوْہَا وَاَنْتُمْ لَہَا كٰرِہُوْنَ۝۲۸
Qala ya qawmi araaytum in kuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee waatanee rahmatan min AAindihi faAAummiyat AAalaykum anulzimukumooha waantum laha karihoona

Ahmed Ali

He said: "O my people, think. If I have a clear proof from my Lord, and He has bestowed on me His grace, though unknown to you, can we force it upon you when you are averse?

28

وَيٰقَوْمِ لَاۗ اَسْـــَٔـلُكُمْ عَلَيْہِ مَالًا۝۰ۭ اِنْ اَجْرِيَ اِلَّا عَلَي اللہِ وَمَاۗ اَنَا بِطَارِدِ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا۝۰ۭ اِنَّہُمْ مُّلٰقُوْا رَبِّہِمْ وَلٰكِنِّيْۗ اَرٰىكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْـہَلُوْنَ۝۲۹
Waya qawmi la asalukum AAalayhi malan in ajriya illa AAala Allahi wama ana bitaridi allatheena amanoo innahum mulaqoo rabbihim walakinnee arakum qawman tajhaloona

Ahmed Ali

I do not demand for it any wealth from you, O my people. My reward is with God. And I will not drive those away who believe. They have also to meet their Lord. But I see you are an ignorant people.

29

وَيٰقَوْمِ مَنْ يَّنْصُرُنِيْ مِنَ اللہِ اِنْ طَرَدْتُّہُمْ۝۰ۭ اَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ۝۳۰
Waya qawmi man yansurunee mina Allahi in taradtuhum afala tathakkaroona

Ahmed Ali

O my people, who will save me from God if I drive them away? Do you not understand?

30

وَلَاۗ اَقُوْلُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِيْ خَزَاۗىِٕنُ اللہِ وَلَاۗ اَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ وَلَاۗ اَقُوْلُ اِنِّىْ مَلَكٌ وَّلَاۗ اَقُوْلُ لِلَّذِيْنَ تَزْدَرِيْۗ اَعْيُنُكُمْ لَنْ يُّؤْتِيَہُمُ اللہُ خَيْرًا۝۰ۭ اَللہُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِيْۗ اَنْفُسِہِمْ۝۰ۚۖ اِنِّىْۗ اِذًا لَّمِنَ الظّٰلِــمِيْنَ۝۳۱
Wala aqoolu lakum AAindee khazainu Allahi wala aAAlamu alghayba wala aqoolu innee malakun wala aqoolu lillatheena tazdaree aAAyunukum lan yutiyahumu Allahu khayran Allahu aAAlamu bima fee anfusihim innee ithan lamina alththalimeena

Ahmed Ali

I say not that I have the treasures of God, or that I possess the knowledge of the unknown. I do not claim to be an angel, nor can I say that God will not bestow any good on those you disdain, for God is cognisant of what is in their hearts. If I say this, I will surely be unjust."

31

قَالُوْا يٰنُوْحُ قَدْ جٰدَلْتَنَا فَاَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا فَاْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۗ اِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقِيْنَ۝۳۲
Qaloo ya noohu qad jadaltana faaktharta jidalana fatina bima taAAiduna in kunta mina alssadiqeena

English

Ahmed Ali

They said: "O Noah, you have argued with us, and disputed at length; so bring that (retribution) you promise, if you speak the truth."

32

قَالَ اِنَّمَا يَاْتِيْكُمْ بِہِ اللہُ اِنْ شَاۗءَ وَمَاۗ اَنْتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِيْنَ۝۳۳
Qala innama yateekum bihi Allahu in shaa wama antum bimuAAjizeena

Ahmed Ali

He replied: "Only God will bring it on you if He please, and you cannot prevail against Him.
