٧ - ٱلْأَعْرَاف

7 - Al-A'raf

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنٰكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنٰكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلٰۗىِٕكَۃِ اسْجُدُوْا لِاٰدَمَ۝۰ۤۖ فَسَجَدُوْۗا اِلَّاۗ اِبْلِيْسَ۝۰ۭ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِّنَ السّٰجِدِيْنَ۝۱۱
Walaqad khalaqnakum thumma sawwarnakum thumma qulna lilmalaikati osjudoo liadama fasajadoo illa ibleesa lam yakun mina alssajideena

English

Ahmed Ali

Verily We created you and gave you form and shape, and ordered the angels to bow before Adam in homage; and they all bowed but Iblis who was not among those who bowed.

11

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ اَلَّا تَسْجُدَ اِذْ اَمَرْتُكَ۝۰ۭ قَالَ اَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْہُ۝۰ۚ خَلَقْتَنِيْ مِنْ نَّارٍ وَّخَلَقْتَہٗ مِنْ طِيْنٍ۝۱۲
Qala ma manaAAaka alla tasjuda ith amartuka qala ana khayrun minhu khalaqtanee min narin wakhalaqtahu min teenin

English

Ahmed Ali

"What prevented you" (said God), "from bowing (before Adam) at My bidding?" "I am better than him," said he. "You created me from fire, and him from clay."

12

قَالَ فَاہْبِطْ مِنْہَا فَمَا يَكُوْنُ لَكَ اَنْ تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيْہَا فَاخْرُجْ اِنَّكَ مِنَ الصّٰغِرِيْنَ۝۱۳
Qala faihbit minha fama yakoonu laka an tatakabbara feeha faokhruj innaka mina alssaghireena

Ahmed Ali

So God said: "Descend. You have no right to be insolent here. Go, and away; you are one of the damned."

13

قَالَ اَنْظِرْنِيْۗ اِلٰي يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُوْنَ۝۱۴
Qala anthirnee ila yawmi yubAAathoona

Ahmed Ali

"Grant me respite," said he, "till the raising of the dead."

14

قَالَ اِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِيْنَ۝۱۵
Qala innaka mina almunthareena

English

Ahmed Ali

And God said: "You have the respite."

15

قَالَ فَبِمَاۗ اَغْوَيْتَنِيْ لَاَقْعُدَنَّ لَہُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيْمَ۝۱۶ۙ
Qala fabima aghwaytanee laaqAAudanna lahum sirataka almustaqeema

Ahmed Ali

"Since You led me into error," said Iblis, "I shall lie in wait for them along Your straight path.

16

ثُمَّ لَاٰتِيَنَّہُمْ مِّنْۢ بَيْنِ اَيْدِيْہِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِہِمْ وَعَنْ اَيْمَانِہِمْ وَعَنْ شَمَاۗىِٕلِہِمْ۝۰ۭ وَلَا تَجِدُ اَكْثَرَہُمْ شٰكِرِيْنَ۝۱۷
Thumma laatiyannahum min bayni aydeehim wamin khalfihim waAAan aymanihim waAAan shamailihim wala tajidu aktharahum shakireena

Ahmed Ali

And I shall come upon them from the front and behind, right and left; and You will not find among them many who would give thanks."

17

قَالَ اخْرُجْ مِنْہَا مَذْءُوْمًا مَّدْحُوْرًا۝۰ۭ لَمَنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْہُمْ لَاَمْلَــــَٔـنَّ جَہَنَّمَ مِنْكُمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ۝۱۸
Qala okhruj minha mathooman madhooran laman tabiAAaka minhum laamlaanna jahannama minkum ajmaAAeena

Ahmed Ali

"Begone," said (God), "contemptible and rejected! As for those who follow you, I shall fill up Hell with all of you.

18

وَيٰۗاٰدَمُ اسْكُنْ اَنْتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّۃَ فَكُلَا مِنْ حَيْثُ شِـئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا ہٰذِہِ الشَّجَرَۃَ فَتَكُوْنَا مِنَ الظّٰلِـمِيْنَ۝۱۹
Waya adamu oskun anta wazawjuka aljannata fakula min haythu shituma wala taqraba hathihi alshshajarata fatakoona mina alththalimeena

Ahmed Ali

And you, O Adam, and your spouse, live in the Garden and eat your fill wheresoever you like, but do not approach this tree, or you will become iniquitous."

19

فَوَسْوَسَ لَہُمَا الشَّيْطٰنُ لِيُبْدِيَ لَہُمَا مَا وٗرِيَ عَنْہُمَا مِنْ سَوْاٰتِہِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَہٰىكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنْ ہٰذِہِ الشَّجَرَۃِ اِلَّاۗ اَنْ تَكُوْنَا مَلَكَيْنِ اَوْ تَكُوْنَا مِنَ الْخٰلِدِيْنَ۝۲۰
Fawaswasa lahuma alshshaytanu liyubdiya lahuma ma wooriya AAanhuma min sawatihima waqala ma nahakuma rabbukuma AAan hathihi alshshajarati illa an takoona malakayni aw takoona mina alkhalideena

Ahmed Ali

But Satan suggested (evil) to them, in order to reveal their hidden parts of which they were not aware (till then), and said: "Your Lord has forbidden you (to go near) this tree that you may not become angels or immortal."
