١٦ - ٱلنَّحْل

16 - An-Nahl

وَقَالَ اللہُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوْۗا اِلٰـہَيْنِ اثْـنَيْنِ۝۰ۚ اِنَّمَا ہُوَاِلٰہٌ وَّاحِدٌ۝۰ۚ فَاِيَّايَ فَارْہَبُوْنِ۝۵۱
Waqala Allahu la tattakhithoo ilahayni ithnayni innama huwa ilahun wahidun faiyyaya fairhabooni

English

Ahmed Ali

God says: "Do not take to two gods, for there is only one God. So fear Me."

51

وَلَہٗ مَا فِي السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ وَلَہُ الدِّيْنُ وَاصِبًا۝۰ۭ اَفَغَيْرَ اللہِ تَتَّقُوْنَ۝۵۲
Walahu ma fee alssamawati waalardi walahu alddeenu wasiban afaghayra Allahi tattaqoona

English

Ahmed Ali

Whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him, and His the judgement for ever. So will you fear any other than God?

52

وَمَا بِكُمْ مِّنْ نِّعْمَۃٍ فَمِنَ اللہِ ثُمَّ اِذَا مَسَّكُمُ الضُّرُّ فَاِلَيْہِ تَجْــــَٔــرُوْنَ۝۵۳ۚ
Wama bikum min niAAmatin famina Allahi thumma itha massakumu alddurru failayhi tajaroona

Ahmed Ali

Whatsoever the blessings you enjoy are surely from God, and when in trouble you turn to Him in supplication.

53

ثُمَّ اِذَا كَشَفَ الضُّرَّ عَنْكُمْ اِذَا فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْكُمْ بِرَبِّہِمْ يُشْرِكُوْنَ۝۵۴ۙ
Thumma itha kashafa alddurra AAankum itha fareequn minkum birabbihim yushrikoona

Ahmed Ali

Yet when He has delivered you from affliction, some of you ascribe companions to your Lord

54

لِيَكْفُرُوْا بِمَاۗ اٰتَيْنٰہُمْ۝۰ۭ فَتَمَتَّعُوْا۝۰ۣ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُوْنَ۝۵۵
Liyakfuroo bima ataynahum fatamattaAAoo fasawfa taAAlamoona

English

Ahmed Ali

So as to deny what We have bestowed on them. Well, enjoy yourselves, you will come to know soon.

55

وَيَجْعَلُوْنَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ نَصِيْبًا مِّمَّا رَزَقْنٰہُمْ۝۰ۭ تَاللہِ لَتُسْـــَٔـلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنْتُمْ تَفْتَرُوْنَ۝۵۶
WayajAAaloona lima la yaAAlamoona naseeban mimma razaqnahum taAllahi latusalunna AAamma kuntum taftaroona

Ahmed Ali

They set aside a portion of the food We have given them for those they do not know. By God, you will surely have to answer for all you contrive!

56

وَيَجْعَلُوْنَ لِلہِ الْبَنٰتِ سُبْحٰنَہٗ۝۰ۙ وَلَہُمْ مَّا يَشْتَہُوْنَ۝۵۷
WayajAAaloona lillahi albanati subhanahu walahum ma yashtahoona

English

Ahmed Ali

They attribute daughters to God, the glorious, but for themselves whatsoever they please.

57

وَاِذَا بُشِّرَ اَحَدُہُمْ بِالْاُنْثٰى ظَلَّ وَجْہُہٗ مُسْوَدًّا وَہُوَكَظِيْمٌ۝۵۸ۚ
Waitha bushshira ahaduhum bialontha thalla wajhuhu muswaddan wahuwa katheemun

Ahmed Ali

Yet when news of the birth of a daughter reaches one of them, his face is darkened, and he is overwhelmed with silent grief,

58

يَتَوَارٰى مِنَ الْقَوْمِ مِنْ سُوْۗءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِہٖ۝۰ۭ اَيُمْسِكُہٗ عَلٰي ہُوْنٍ اَمْ يَدُسُّہٗ فِي التُّرَابِ۝۰ۭ اَلَا سَاۗءَ مَا يَحْكُمُوْنَ۝۵۹
Yatawara mina alqawmi min sooi ma bushshira bihi ayumsikuhu AAala hoonin am yadussuhu fee altturabi ala saa ma yahkumoona

Ahmed Ali

And hides from people for shame at the news, (at a loss) whether he should keep her with shame, or bury her in the ground. How bad is the judgement that they make!

59

لِلَّذِيْنَ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِالْاٰخِرَۃِ مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ۝۰ۚ وَلِلہِ الْمَثَلُ الْاَعْلٰى۝۰ۭ وَہُوَالْعَزِيْزُ الْحَكِيْمُ۝۶۰ۧ
Lillatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati mathalu alssawi walillahi almathalu alaAAla wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu

English

Ahmed Ali

The semblance of those who believe not in the life to come is that of the meanest; but the semblance of God is the most sublime, for He is all-mighty and all-wise.
