٢٨ - ٱلْقَصَص

28 - Al-Qasas

وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّہَ تِلْقَاۗءَ مَدْيَنَ قَالَ عَسٰى رَبِّيْۗ اَنْ يَّہْدِيَنِيْ سَوَاۗءَ السَّبِيْلِ۝۲۲
Walamma tawajjaha tilqaa madyana qala AAasa rabbee an yahdiyanee sawaa alssabeeli

English

Ahmed Ali

Then as he turned his face to Midian, he said: "Maybe my Lord will show me the right way."

22

وَلَمَّا وَرَدَ مَاۗءَ مَدْيَنَ وَجَدَ عَلَيْہِ اُمَّۃً مِّنَ النَّاسِ يَسْقُوْنَ۝۰ۥۡ وَوَجَدَ مِنْ دُوْنِہِمُ امْرَاَتَيْنِ تَذُوْدٰنِ۝۰ۚ قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُمَا۝۰ۭ قَالَتَا لَا نَسْقِيْ حَتّٰى يُصْدِرَ الرِّعَاۗءُ ۝۰۫ وَاَبُوْنَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيْرٌ۝۲۳
Walamma warada maa madyana wajada AAalayhi ommatan mina alnnasi yasqoona wawajada min doonihimu imraatayni tathoodani qala ma khatbukuma qalata la nasqee hatta yusdira alrriAAao waaboona shaykhun kabeerun

And when he came to the waters of Midian he found a crowd of people watering (their flocks), and saw two maidens holding back (their cattle). He asked: "What is the trouble with you?" They said: "We cannot water our flock till the shepherds have driven away theirs, and our father is a very old man."

23

فَسَقٰى لَہُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَلّٰۗي اِلَى الظِّلِّ فَقَالَ رَبِّ اِنِّىْ لِمَاۗ اَنْزَلْتَ اِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيْرٌ۝۲۴
Fasaqa lahuma thumma tawalla ila alththilli faqala rabbi innee lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeerun

Ahmed Ali

So he watered (their flock), and moved into the shade and prayed: "My Lord, I have need of whatever good you send me."

24

فَجَاۗءَتْہُ اِحْدٰىہُمَا تَمْشِيْ عَلَي اسْـتِحْيَاۗءٍ۝۰ۡقَالَتْ اِنَّ اَبِيْ يَدْعُوْكَ لِيَجْزِيَكَ اَجْرَ مَا سَقَيْتَ لَنَا۝۰ۭ فَلَمَّا جَاۗءَہٗ وَقَصَّ عَلَيْہِ الْقَصَصَ۝۰ۙ قَالَ لَا تَخَفْ۝۰۪ۣ نَجَوْتَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظّٰلِــمِيْنَ۝۲۵
Fajaathu ihdahuma tamshee AAala istihyain qalat inna abee yadAAooka liyajziyaka ajra ma saqayta lana falamma jaahu waqassa AAalayhi alqasasa qala la takhaf najawta mina alqawmi alththalimeena

Ahmed Ali

Then one of the (maidens) came to him walking bashfully, (and) said: "My father invites you that he may repay you for having watered our flock." So, when (Moses) came to him and told him his story, he said: "Have no fear. You have escaped from the wicked people."

25

قَالَتْ اِحْدٰىہُمَا يٰۗاَبَتِ اسْتَاْجِرْہُ۝۰ۡاِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْـتَاْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الْاَمِيْنُ۝۲۶
Qalat ihdahuma ya abati istajirhu inna khayra mani istajarta alqawiyyu alameenu

Ahmed Ali

Said one of the maidens: "O father, employ him. Surely the best (man) to employ is one who is strong and honest."

26

قَالَ اِنِّىْۗ اُرِيْدُ اَنْ اُنْكِحَكَ اِحْدَى ابْنَـتَيَّ ہٰتَيْنِ عَلٰۗي اَنْ تَاْجُرَنِيْ ثَمٰـنِيَ حِجَجٍ۝۰ۚ فَاِنْ اَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا فَمِنْ عِنْدِكَ۝۰ۚ وَمَاۗ اُرِيْدُ اَنْ اَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ۝۰ۭ سَتَجِدُنِيْۗ اِنْ شَاۗءَ اللہُ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيْنَ۝۲۷
Qala innee oreedu an onkihaka ihda ibnatayya hatayni AAala an tajuranee thamaniya hijajin fain atmamta AAashran famin AAindika wama oreedu an ashuqqa AAalayka satajidunee in shaa Allahu mina alssaliheena

Ahmed Ali

He said: "I would like to marry one of these two daughters of mine to you if you agree to work for me on hire for eight years. And if you stay on for ten, it is up to you. I do not wish to impose any hardship on you. God willing you will find me a man of honour."

27

قَالَ ذٰلِكَ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَكَ۝۰ۭ اَيَّمَا الْاَجَلَيْنِ قَضَيْتُ فَلَا عُدْوَانَ عَلَيَّ۝۰ۭ وَاللہُ عَلٰي مَا نَقُوْلُ وَكِيْلٌ۝۲۸ۧ
Qala thalika baynee wabaynaka ayyama alajalayni qadaytu fala AAudwana AAalayya waAllahu AAala ma naqoolu wakeelun

English

Ahmed Ali

(Moses) said: "This is (agreed) between you and me. Whichever term I fulfil, no injustice will be done to me. God is witness to our agreement."
