٤٠ - غَافِر

40 - Ghafir

وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ ￁مِنٌ۝۰ۤۖ مِّنْ اٰلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَكْتُمُ اِيْمَانَہٗۗ اَتَقْتُلُوْنَ رَجُلًا اَنْ يَّقُوْلَ رَبِّيَ اللہُ وَقَدْ جَاۗءَكُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ مِنْ رَّبِّكُمْ۝۰ۭ وَاِنْ يَّكُ كَاذِبًا فَعَلَيْہِ كَذِبُہٗ۝۰ۚ وَاِنْ يَّكُ صَادِقًا يُّصِبْكُمْ بَعْضُ الَّذِيْ يَعِدُكُمْ۝۰ۭ اِنَّ اللہَ لَا يَہْدِيْ مَنْ ہُوَمُسْرِفٌ كَذَّابٌ۝۲۸
Waqala rajulun muminun min ali firAAawna yaktumu eemanahu ataqtuloona rajulan an yaqoola rabbiyya Allahu waqad jaakum bialbayyinati min rabbikum wain yaku kathiban faAAalayhi kathibuhu wain yaku sadiqan yusibkum baAAdu allathee yaAAidukum inna Allaha la yahdee man huwa musrifun kaththabun

Ahmed Ali

A believer from the House of Pharaoh who had kept his faith to himself, said: "Will you kill a man because he says: 'My Lord is God,' when he has brought clear signs from his Lord to you? If he is a liar his lie will recoil back on him; but in case he speaks the truth, then what he predicts will befall you. Surely God does not show the way to the shameful liar.

28

يٰقَوْمِ لَكُمُ الْمُلْكُ الْيَوْمَ ظٰہِرِيْنَ فِي الْاَرْضِ۝۰ۡ فَمَنْ يَّنْصُرُنَا مِنْۢ بَاْسِ اللہِ اِنْ جَاۗءَنَا۝۰ۭ قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ مَاۗ اُرِيْكُمْ اِلَّا مَاۗ اَرٰى وَمَاۗ اَہْدِيْكُمْ اِلَّا سَبِيْلَ الرَّشَادِ۝۲۹
Ya qawmi lakumu almulku alyawma thahireena fee alardi faman yansuruna min basi Allahi in jaana qala firAAawnu ma oreekum illa ma ara wama ahdeekum illa sabeela alrrashadi

Ahmed Ali

O my people, authority is yours today being the most powerful in the land; but who will save us from the scourge of God if it fall upon us?" "I show you," said the Pharaoh, "only what I see (is right), and guide you but to the right path."

29

وَقَالَ الَّذِيْۗ اٰمَنَ يٰقَوْمِ اِنِّىْۗ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّثْلَ يَوْمِ الْاَحْزَابِ۝۳۰ۙ
Waqala allathee amana ya qawmi innee akhafu AAalaykum mithla yawmi alahzabi

English

Ahmed Ali

But the man of belief said: "O my people, what I fear for you is the like of what befell the communities (of old).

30

مِثْلَ دَاْبِ قَوْمِ نُوْحٍ وَّعَادٍ وَّثَمُوْدَ وَالَّذِيْنَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِہِمْ۝۰ۭ وَمَا اللہُ يُرِيْدُ ظُلْمًا لِّلْعِبَادِ۝۳۱
Mithla dabi qawmi noohin waAAadin wathamooda waallatheena min baAAdihim wama Allahu yureedu thulman lilAAibadi

Ahmed Ali

Like the people of Noah, 'Ad and Thamud, and those that came after them. God does not want to be unjust to His creatures.

31

وَيٰقَوْمِ اِنِّىْۗ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَوْمَ التَّنَادِ۝۳۲ۙ
Waya qawmi innee akhafu AAalaykum yawma alttanadi

Ahmed Ali

O my people, what I fear for you is the day of gathering, crying and calling,

32

يَوْمَ تُوَلُّوْنَ مُدْبِرِيْنَ۝۰ۚ مَا لَكُمْ مِّنَ اللہِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍ۝۰ۚ وَمَنْ يُّضْلِلِ اللہُ فَمَا لَہٗ مِنْ ہَادٍ۝۳۳
Yawma tuwalloona mudbireena ma lakum mina Allahi min AAasimin waman yudlili Allahu fama lahu min hadin

Ahmed Ali

The day you will turn your backs and flee, with none to defend you against God. Whoever God allows to go astray has none to show him the way.

33

وَلَقَدْ جَاۗءَكُمْ يُوْسُفُ مِنْ قَبْلُ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَمَازِلْتُمْ فِيْ شَكٍّ مِّمَّا جَاۗءَكُمْ بِہٖ۝۰ۭ حَتّٰۗي اِذَا ہَلَكَ قُلْتُمْ لَنْ يَّبْعَثَ اللہُ مِنْۢ بَعْدِہٖ رَسُوْلًا۝۰ۭ كَذٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللہُ مَنْ ہُوَ مُسْرِفٌ مُّرْتَابُۨ۝۳۴ۚۖ
Walaqad jaakum yoosufu min qablu bialbayyinati fama ziltum fee shakkin mimma jaakum bihi hatta itha halaka qultum lan yabAAatha Allahu min baAAdihi rasoolan kathalika yudillu Allahu man huwa musrifun murtabun

Joseph had indeed come to you before with clear proofs, but you did not cease to doubt what he had brought until he died, when you said: 'God will not send a prophet after him.' That is how God leads the waster, the sceptic astray.

34

الَّذِيْنَ يُجَادِلُوْنَ فِيْۗ اٰيٰتِ اللہِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطٰنٍ اَتٰىہُمْ۝۰ۭ كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِنْدَ اللہِ وَعِنْدَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا۝۰ۭ كَذٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللہُ عَلٰي كُلِّ قَلْبِ مُتَكَبِّرٍ جَبَّارٍ۝۳۵
Allatheena yujadiloona fee ayati Allahi bighayri sultanin atahum kabura maqtan AAinda Allahi waAAinda allatheena amanoo kathalika yatbaAAu Allahu AAala kulli qalbi mutakabbirin jabbarin

Ahmed Ali

Those who dispute God's revelations, with no authority having come to them, (are) greatly odious in the sight of God, and the sight of those who believe. That is how God seals every proud and perverse heart."

35

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يٰہَامٰنُ ابْنِ لِيْ صَرْحًا لَّعَلِّيْۗ اَبْلُغُ الْاَسْـبَابَ۝۳۶ۙ
Waqala firAAawnu ya hamanu ibni lee sarhan laAAallee ablughu alasbaba

Ahmed Ali

The Pharaoh said: "O Haman, build me a lofty tower that I may perhaps find the means

36

اَسْـبَابَ السَّمٰوٰتِ فَاَطَّلِعَ اِلٰۗى اِلٰہِ مُوْسٰى وَاِنِّىْ لَاَظُنُّہٗ كَاذِبًا۝۰ۭ وَكَذٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرْعَوْنَ سُوْۗءُ عَمَلِہٖ وَصُدَّ عَنِ السَّبِيْلِ۝۰ۭ وَمَا كَيْدُ فِرْعَوْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ تَبَابٍ۝۳۷ۧ
Asbaba alssamawati faattaliAAa ila ilahi moosa wainnee laathunnuhu kathiban wakathalika zuyyina lifirAAawna sooo AAamalihi wasudda AAani alssabeeli wama kaydu firAAawna illa fee tababin

Ahmed Ali

Of reaching the tracts of heaven and look at the god of Moses, though I think that he is a liar." Thus were the evil deeds of Pharaoh made to look attractive to him, and he was hindered from the path. So the stratagem of Pharaoh was bound to perish.
