ALIF LAM MIM.

1

اَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ اَنْ يُّتْرَكُوْۗا اَنْ يَّقُوْلُوْۗا اٰمَنَّا وَہُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُوْنَ۝۲
Ahasiba alnnasu an yutrakoo an yaqooloo amanna wahum la yuftanoona

English

Ahmed Ali

Do men think they will get away by saying: "We believe," and will not be tried?

2

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِہِمْ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللہُ الَّذِيْنَ صَدَقُوْا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْكٰذِبِيْنَ۝۳
Walaqad fatanna allatheena min qablihim falayaAAlamanna Allahu allatheena sadaqoo walayaAAlamanna alkathibeena

Ahmed Ali

We had tried those who were before them so that God knew who spoke the truth, and who were liars.

3

اَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِيْنَ يَعْمَلُوْنَ السَّـيِّاٰتِ اَنْ يَّسْبِقُوْنَا۝۰ۭ سَاۗءَ مَا يَحْكُمُوْنَ۝۴
Am hasiba allatheena yaAAmaloona alssayyiati an yasbiqoona saa ma yahkumoona

Ahmed Ali

Do those who do evil think that they will get the better of Us? How bad is the judgement that they make!

4

مَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُوْا لِقَاۗءَ اللہِ فَاِنَّ اَجَلَ اللہِ لَاٰتٍ۝۰ۭ وَہُوَالسَّمِيْعُ الْعَلِيْمُ۝۵
Man kana yarjoo liqaa Allahi fainna ajala Allahi laatin wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

English

Ahmed Ali

He who hopes to meet God (should know) that God's appointed time will surely come. He is all-hearing and all-knowing.

5

وَمَنْ جَاہَدَ فَاِنَّمَا يُجَاہِدُ لِنَفْسِہٖ۝۰ۭ اِنَّ اللہَ لَغَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ۝۶
Waman jahada fainnama yujahidu linafsihi inna Allaha laghaniyyun AAani alAAalameena

Ahmed Ali

He who strives does so for himself. Verily God is independent of the creatures of the world.

6

وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْہُمْ سَـيِّاٰتِہِمْ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّہُمْ اَحْسَنَ الَّذِيْ كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ۝۷
Waallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lanukaffiranna AAanhum sayyiatihim walanajziyannahum ahsana allathee kanoo yaAAmaloona

English

Ahmed Ali

We shall pardon the sinful deeds of those who believe and do the right, and give them a reward better than their deeds.

7

وَوَصَّيْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْہِ حُسْـنًا۝۰ۭ وَاِنْ جَاہَدٰكَ لِتُشْرِكَ بِيْ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِہٖ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْہُمَا۝۰ۭ اِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَاُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ۝۸
Wawassayna alinsana biwalidayhi husnan wain jahadaka litushrika bee ma laysa laka bihi AAilmun fala tutiAAhuma ilayya marjiAAukum faonabbiokum bima kuntum taAAmaloona

Ahmed Ali

We have enjoined on man to be good to his parents; but if they try to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. You have to come back to Us, when I will tell you what you used to do.

8

وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَــنُدْخِلَنَّہُمْ فِي الصّٰلِحِيْنَ۝۹
Waallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lanudkhilannahum fee alssaliheena

Ahmed Ali

We shall admit those who believe and do the right among the righteous.

9

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَّقُوْلُ اٰمَنَّا بِاللہِ فَاِذَاۗ اُوْذِيَ فِي اللہِ جَعَلَ فِتْنَۃَ النَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ اؘ۝۰ۭ وَلَىِٕنْ جَاۗءَ نَصْرٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكَ لَيَقُوْلُنَّ اِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمْ۝۰ۭ اَوَلَيْسَ اللہُ بِاَعْلَمَ بِمَا فِيْ صُدُوْرِ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ۝۱۰
Wamina alnnasi man yaqoolu amanna biAllahi faitha oothiya fee Allahi jaAAala fitnata alnnasi kaAAathabi Allahi walain jaa nasrun min rabbika layaqoolunna inna kunna maAAakum awalaysa Allahu biaAAlama bima fee sudoori alAAalameena

Ahmed Ali

There are among men those who say: "We believe in God;" yet if they happen to suffer in the cause of God they take oppression by men as punishment from God. And if help comes to them from your Lord, they say: "We were with you." Does not God know what is hidden in the hearts of men?
