١٩ - مَرْيَم

19 - Maryam

وَاذْكُرْ فِى الْكِتٰبِ مَرْيَمَ۝۰ۘ اِذِ انْتَبَذَتْ مِنْ اَہْلِہَا مَكَانًا شَرْقِيًّا۝۱۶ۙ
Waothkur fee alkitabi maryama ithi intabathat min ahliha makanan sharqiyyan

Commemorate Mary in the Book. When she withdrew from her family to a place in the East

16

فَاتَّخَذَتْ مِنْ دُوْنِہِمْ حِجَابًا۝۰ۣ۠ فَاَرْسَلْنَاۗ اِلَيْہَا رُوْحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَہَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا۝۱۷
Faittakhathat min doonihim hijaban faarsalna ilayha roohana fatamaththala laha basharan sawiyyan

Ahmed Ali

And took cover from them, We sent a spirit of Ours to her who appeared before her in the concrete form of a man.

17

قَالَتْ اِنِّىْۗ اَعُوْذُ بِالرَّحْمٰنِ مِنْكَ اِنْ كُنْتَ تَقِيًّا۝۱۸
Qalat innee aAAoothu bialrrahmani minka in kunta taqiyyan

Ahmed Ali

"I seek refuge in the Merciful from you, if you fear Him," she said.

18

قَالَ اِنَّمَاۗ اَنَا رَسُوْلُ رَبِّكِ۝۰ۤۖ لِاَہَبَ لَكِ غُلٰمًا زَكِيًّا۝۱۹
Qala innama ana rasoolu rabbiki liahaba laki ghulaman zakiyyan

English

Ahmed Ali

He replied: "I am only a messenger from your Lord (sent) to bestow a good son on you."

19

قَالَتْ اَنّٰى يَكُوْنُ لِيْ غُلٰمٌ وَّلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِيْ بَشَرٌ وَّلَمْ اَكُ بَغِيًّا۝۲۰
Qalat anna yakoonu lee ghulamun walam yamsasnee basharun walam aku baghiyyan

Ahmed Ali

"How can I have a son," she said, "when no man has touched me, nor am I sinful?"

20

قَالَ كَذٰلِكِ۝۰ۚ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ہُوَعَلَيَّ ہَيِّنٌ۝۰ۚ وَلِنَجْعَلَہٗۗ اٰيَۃً لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَحْمَۃً مِّنَّا۝۰ۚ وَكَانَ اَمْرًا مَّقْضِيًّا۝۲۱
Qala kathaliki qala rabbuki huwa AAalayya hayyinun walinajAAalahu ayatan lilnnasi warahmatan minna wakana amran maqdiyyan

Ahmed Ali

He said: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'It is easy for Me,' and that: 'We shall make him a sign for men and a blessing from Us.' This is a thing already decreed."

21

فَـحَمَلَتْہُ فَانْتَبَذَتْ بِہٖ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا۝۲۲
Fahamalathu faintabathat bihi makanan qasiyyan

When she conceived him she went away to a distant place.

22

فَاَجَاۗءَہَا الْمَخَاضُ اِلٰى جِذْعِ النَّخْلَۃِ۝۰ۚ قَالَتْ يٰلَيْتَنِيْ مِتُّ قَبْلَ ھٰذَا وَكُنْتُ نَسْـيًا مَّنْسِـيًّا۝۲۳
Faajaaha almakhadu ila jithAAi alnnakhlati qalat ya laytanee mittu qabla hatha wakuntu nasyan mansiyyan

Ahmed Ali

The birth pangs led her to the trunk of a date-palm tree. "Would that I had died before this," she said, "and become a thing forgotten, unremembered."

23

فَنَادٰىہَا مِنْ تَحْتِہَاۗ اَلَّا تَحْزَنِيْ قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّا۝۲۴
Fanadaha min tahtiha alla tahzanee qad jaAAala rabbuki tahtaki sariyyan

Ahmed Ali

Then (a voice) called to her from below: "Grieve not; your Lord has made a rivulet gush forth right below you.

24

وَہُزِّيْۗ اِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَۃِ تُسٰقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا۝۲۵ۡ
Wahuzzee ilayki bijithAAi alnnakhlati tusaqit AAalayki rutaban janiyyan

Shake the trunk of the date-palm tree, and it will drop ripe dates for you.
