5. North Durham Masjid

Without thousands of North Carolina Muslims making the Triangle area their home, the North Durham Masjid provided a much-needed center for praying and socialization. The Muslim population is growing by leaps and bounds, which means that the Triangle Area doesn’t have many mosques for residents within reasonable driving or walking distance. To address this concern, a group of Muslim brothers decided to establish the North Durham masjid. They generated funds through the Islamic Society of Central Carolina and started full-fledged Ramadan and Jumma prayer services in 2011.

In the future, the people running the North Durham Masjid want it to be a useful community center for local Muslims. They aim to make this mosque a spiritual, social, and beneficial space that can also reach out to non-Muslims and Muslims from other areas. Just a few of the offerings here include a weekend school, community dinners, guest speakers, ESL classes, Quran memorization classes, Arabic classes, and much more.
