Popular Mosques in Albuquerque, NM

Known as the cultural hub of New Mexico, Albuquerque is the most populous city in the state. Albuquerque, also called Duke City, ABQ, and Burque, is one of the most culturally diverse cities in America, and this ethnic tapestry is reflected in the framework of the city – from its artwork, cuisine, and cultural centers to its architecture. Therefore, the growing interest, particularly among families to move to Albuquerque does not come as a surprise, and Muslim families are no different.

Although the Muslim population in the city remains relatively small, with an estimated figure of around 10,000 only – the Muslim community in the city plays a prominent role. Many Muslims currently residing in the city are immigrants who moved to America to build a better life for themselves and their families. Most of these immigrants are either Arabs or Pakistanis, and a majority of them are students.

Muslims living in Albuquerque find it difficult to come across authentic Islamic information, such as prayer times or the nearby mosques they can visit to offer their daily salah. The Muslim and Quran platform solves this problem. Download the mobile application or visit the website to find accurate salah times and nearby mosques. We've compiled a list of the popular mosques in the city that you can visit regularly to offer your five daily prayers, the Jummah/Friday prayer, and connect with fellow Muslims!

Popular Mosques in Albuquerque

Mosques are the heart of Islamic life. They serve as worship areas where believers gather for congregation and engage in the devoted worship of Allah. Mosques also host important events related to the holy month of Ramadan – giving Muslims a sense of community and unity, especially when they're away from home and residing in a non-Muslim community. Moreover, one can receive Islamic education and learn to read and understand the Quran in mosques. Therefore, wherever a Muslim may be – a mosque is essential. The following mosques in Albuquerque have proudly been serving the Muslims of the city for years:

1. Islamic Center of New Mexico

Islamic Center of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque, was founded to meet the growing needs of an Islamic center for the Muslim community in New Mexico. The mosque aims to serve the spiritual, educational, and social necessities of Muslims in the state efficiently. Moreover, it also wants to foster a sense of unity and understanding among the Muslim community in America to promote an environment of harmony while also promoting compassion and justice.

The mosque aims to meet its mission by ensuring Muslims in the community pray regularly and receive Islamic education and through hosting community events to give the people a chance to come together and socialize. Living as a Muslim in a non-Muslim country can be challenging, and having your people by your side can help in dealing with homesickness, particularly associated with immigration.

Other services offered by the mosque include:

  • Funeral Service/Janazah: the center provides full services associated with a funeral: ghusl (washing), janazah (funeral prayer), and burial.
  • Matrimonial services: the center also offers marriage services such as nikkah.
  • Educational services: ICNM offers a weekend Quran and school program for children aged 4 and older. The school starts at 10 am and ends before dhuhr prayer. The school aims to teach children to read the Quran along with an understanding of basic Islamic principles.
