Also known as the 'Al-Islah Islamic Center' or 'Al-Islah Jame Masjid,' the Al-Islah mosque is one of the trailblazers in Hamtramck, formerly a Polish-Catholic dominant city. It was the first mosque in the city to broadcast the call to prayer on loudspeakers. A relatively small mosque with a beige, modest exterior, it was established in 2000 mainly by Bangladeshi Americans and still caters largely to the same community. The mosque's interior carries the same beige and yellow hue, with floors covered by burgundy and green carpets with exquisite embroidery. The mosque in 2004 purchased an adjacent building to build an Islamic school (Madrassa) for the young Muslim population. It is a Sunni denomination mosque with local Islamic sessions and Jumma sermons taking place in Bengali and English languages.
A popular mosque in the locality, Abu-Bakr Al-Siddique Islamic Center, has played a significant role in spreading awareness regarding Islam and working towards the spiritual betterment of the entire community since its inception. With a rather large parking area, the Islamic center is a rectangular-shaped, one-story building with a midnight blue exterior. The interior has white painted walls with light brown carpeted floors. There are separate prayer halls for male and female worshippers. The center is well-ventilated and cooled, with a variety of services being provided. The Abu-Bakr Al-Siddique Islamic Center offers daily Islamic classes, seminars, and sessions focusing on the discussion of Islamic books, spiritual sessions, and guidance services. The center also holds occasional activities, breakfasts, and gatherings.
Hailed as a family-oriented mosque and center, the Muslim Center Masjid has been a place of worship and get-togethers for the local Muslim community of Detroit for the past 35 years. With an interior of beige and light brown walls and well-lighted halls, the Muslim Center Masjid is not only a religious center but, more importantly, a place for the locals to celebrate various festivities and occasions together. The center has a shared prayer space for female worshippers. It also has separate teaching facilities for children and adults in addition to Islamic seminars, iftars in Ramadan, literary contests, and religious discussions. The center also arranges Salat classes and career counseling sessions.
Brimming with worshippers during prayer times in Hamtramck, the Bosnian-American Islamic Center is a cardinal piece of a very vibrant neighborhood. Established in 1998, the center is run mainly by Bosnian-Americans and provides services to everyone. With light turquoise and dark green walls and olive-green carpets with pink hues on the floor, the mosque is embellished with tiny chandeliers. The mosque has a long-standing tradition of holding events and festivities and offering a communal hub to the residents as well as tourists looking to visit the area. The mosque has a group for children learning about Islamic teachings and culture. There's also a youth group for helping to connect and build friendships.
