The city has a multitude of notable educational institutes which attract Muslim students from around the world. From the 5 daily prayer timings to mosques and from halal food points to Muslim organizations working in the city, this page provides information about all.
Muslims must offer their prayers five times a day. The Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers are mandatory for all mature Muslim men and women. Muslims may offer these prayers (salat) at home or in the masjid (mosque). However, it is preferable for Muslim men to offer their salat with the jama'at (congregation) in the mosque. Mosques are places of worship in Islam, and in Muslim minority countries, they double as places for community building. Rochester has quite a few mosques and Islamic organizations. Muslims of Rochester can visit these mosques at prayer times to offer their daily namaz (prayer), meet members of the Muslim community in Rochester, attend Islamic events, join Islamic school, get Islamic financial assistance, get career counselling, and more. The Bosnia and Herzegovina Cultural Center, or BHCC, was founded in 2016. It's an excellent place for the local Muslims to get together, network, and further develop their community. Since it focuses mainly on English, most attendees feel comfortable with the services and activities held here. The BHCC holds all five daily prayers as well as the communal Jumu'ah prayers. It also tries to cultivate an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere for the women in the community. These efforts include designating a separate place for prayer, holding family-friendly activities, and so on.
